Yes. The definition of "premises" does not include parking lots.

I encourage you to take the mag with you just in case you find yourself face to face with some tool as he is cleaning out your car. At least he won't be able to use your pistol until he finds a mag and some ammo. B

If it is a private university, posted with 30.06 signs, no.  Otherwise, yes.  It's probably against the rules if you are a student or employee, though.

A school could post 30.06 signs in the parking lot, and they would be enforceable in a private school.

Minus that, if the handbook prohibits possession ANYWHERE on campus, but the language is not 30.06 complliant, then you could be disciplined by the school, but not charged criminally.

I went to Baylor, which is a private university of course.

Many many people kept firearms in their vehicles.  That said, mostly it was shotguns and hunting rifles.  Probably very few pistols or EBR's.

It was and is against school rules to have a firearm on campus.

The problem is, if your vehicle gets broken in to, and the firearm is stolen, how do you report it?

Most campuses have their own "campus" police.  They are regular police, just assigned to the school.  If you report it stolen, more than likely you are going to face disciplinary action from the school.  Which can be as mild as a fine, or a severe as getting kicked out.

Best is to make friends with a trustworth person who lives off-campus.  OR, most universities in Texas allow you to take your firearm to the campus PD, who will store it for you.  The problem with that is, the office may be closed after hours and during the weekends, so if you have a spur of the moment dove hunting trip Saturday afternoon, you're screwed.

IF you keep a firearm in your truck, i suggest keeping it in a quality toolbox securely bolted to the bed that stays locked all the time.  That is harder to break in to than the cab.

i live in conroe, but attend school at the University of Houston. Which is in a neighboorhood not so nice. I carry, not to keep my guns, but for my personal safety. i do not carry to class.

so it looks like i criminally immune, but i am subject to disciplinary actions by the university. if i had the gun in my car and got caught.

man what a bummer.

(3)  "Premises" means a building or a portion of a
building.  The term does not include any public or private driveway,
street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other
parking area.

When were you at Baylor? I also went to Baylor and kept my guns in the trunk of my car. While universities are notorious for burglary of vehicles, the trunk of my car could not be opened without a key, so even if they broke into the vehicle, BGs couldn't get to the guns in my trunk.
