I'm interested in a class that teachs handgunning from the beginning for my wife and I. Nothing to high stress or competative. I'd like a more relaxed atmosphere. I've been shooting since I was a little kid, but never had really any guidance or proper training. My wife is pretty new to shooting, but she knows the basics.

I'm looking to get into IDPA and have been watching videos. I notice that most shooters square their body to the target which I stand more like I'm shooting a rifle with my left foot infront pointing towards the target and my body sidways to the target. I actually do pretty ok shooting though. I just know I can probally get better and want to do this together with my wife.

Anyone know of any good classes and which classes to take that work on the proper grips and shooting stances on up to running and gunning? Thank you.

Edit: Guess it would help to say I live in Houston.

I forwarded your post to Matt with www.mastsolutions.com They do private trainings that would be perfect for what you are looking for, or if you prefer, they do a level I pistol class but the student count would be much higher.
They are based in Katy.

Several good IDPA clubs around Houston.  Get out and shoot in the matches...it's the best training you can get, not to mention fun.

Well, there is Tiger Valley in the Waco area for pistol training (www.tigervalley.com).  There is a two-day Level I class that sounds like what you're looking for and next one is September 8 and 9.  The class does a great job in taking a basic shooter to the next level (either for competition or defense) and the facility is tough to beat, with 8 shooting bays, moving targets, and a host of training aids.  There's also a women's pistol class running that Saturday as well, which runs at a slower pace.  Check out the website and teel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Hi there pappy214;

MAST would like to introduce ourselves to you and your facility if you have interest.  Let me know and we can discuss off line.  Would be great to come out and see your facility as well as train with you.  Thank you in advance for your time.

+1 for Tiger Valley.

The reviews of MAST have been very good as well, and they are a lot closer to you. I was really looking forward to their one day carbine class, but it was scheduled on the one of the very few Saturdays I had to work. Maybe they'll hold another one . . .
