I have been talking with a local range owner about having fun matches once a month on a Saturday or Sunday morning using the police range with us (not one of there range Nazis) Range Safety Officer and clean up after ourselves (unless you can get your mother to come). Not really using any set format more being able to draw from a holster, rapid fire, move while you shoot all the bad things that you can’t do when you show up all by yourself. If anyone is interested drop me an email at [email protected] we will need RSO’s and help coordinating and a dozen other things

Robert

The location which is Elm Fork the owner is really trying to get turned around and cater to established shooters the RSO's have to treat every one the same and experienced shooters get PO ed when they get treated like an novice because we will be our own RSO we wont have that issue. What I want out of the deal is to practice like I would shoot in real life, practice using cover, draw, and be able to fire like I am in a real shoot out. To be able to do this we will have to have a safety check see that the shooter can draw and fire safe. That is where we are at other than waiting for the water to drop and Elm Fork to reopen. We do need to support the Pro Shop and buy targets and such from them I will work out a price structure with the range when I get an idea of how many folks will be shooting

Elm Fork?!

I'll F-ing believe it when I see it.

I was told that FMJ 9mm was not allowed on the rifle range and then told that shoulder fired weapons are not allowed on the pistol. "IM THE RANGE OFFICER. I KNOW EXACTLY WHY WE DONT ALLOW FMJ!" Yeah the 9mm stuff is sure to ricochet on the 100 yd range.....

"We are black rifle friendly. - but we don't trust you so you will have to qualify with 3 supervised rounds on the rifle range. " 30 min later we make your wife shoot 12 rounds because we simply can't believe she has put all those bullets in the ten ring.

"We have a lot of hunter trying to sight in their rifles, do you mind not shooting those AR15's right now?"

I wasn't sure you could shoot anything but shotgun at EF:

Elm Fork

Maybe I have the wrong range?

Actually, it will ricochet, as will FMJ ammo from a rifle. I know, our backstop here at home is dirt and I've had a few rounds ricochet off to wonderland.

The shotgun range is owned seperately from the pistol/rifle range.

This calls for a test!!!

You can walk down 150 yds or so.... and I will shoot 9mm's into the dirt at 100yds...  until one pops up and hits ya.  Then you can tell us what it felt like.

Whady'a say?

A few years a go the back portion of the range was know as Tiger Valley North and TJ had an event there. We basically played by our own (TJ's) rules. TJ and Elm Fork split ways and it never happened again AFAIK.  It would be nice to have a decent range central to DFW that we could do cool things at again.

One Sunday morning, TJ taught a three hour class for ten of us over there. I was hoping that would be a regular thing, but it didn't happen. Let's see now, three hours of his instruction for $35.00, and within a thirty minute drive from home...would that be worth the money?

Who knows if this is good news or not.  I'll be hopeful but won't be surprised if nothing changes.
