After researching Tiger Valley and figuring a level 1 course will run 1000.00+ I began to wonder. Theres got to be an individual or two out there that is qualified to hold a one day workshop in the overall handling of an AR. Say we put together a group of 7 or 8 guys maybe more each kicking in 50 bucks?

Just a thought.

TJ does have 1 and 2 days courses, not just the week long ones.  Most instructors charge at least $150 per day of class, that's how they pay the bills.

If you don't want to spend that much, call TJ and ask if you can just take the first day of his 2 day class.

Just wanted to post an adjusted cost estimate for the classes at Tiger Valley.  If you pre-pay 14 days out the cost is $275 for most 2-day classes.  The two-day expenditure of ammo for a carbine class is 1200 rounds plus 100 pistols for transfer drills.  We offer camping on site for  $5.00 per night, which gives you access to ice and cooking for free.  I can't estimate food costs or gas because I don't no how far everyone is coming from.  I also left out the beer estimate.

Class             $275.00
Ammo wolf     $160.00
9mm               $20.00
Lodging            $15.00
Food                $30.00
Total               $500.00

You are right that many qualified instructors are out there.  Many have the ability to instruct classes at the same level as Tiger Valley or anyother school.  If you find an instructor who says they have information that no one else has you better run.  Marksmanship hasn't changed since the 03 Spring Field and tactics are no secret either.  What the good training facilities have, be it Tac-Pro, Rifles Only, Black water is a range.  A real range allows shooters to shoot in all directions and positions in a safe manner.  This range will have the ability to shoot from contact to long distances.  The range will have target systems that enhance training needs like reactionary steel, moving targets and moving and shooting.  They also have insurance so if someone shoots someone else in the ass they are covered.

You can do some great training on a budget, and you don't have to go to an organized shooting school, but for those shooting activities beyond the basic you will have to spend some money.  You can't beat any of the schools in Texas, they are all very good.  Good luck in your training and be safe.

Ok, I know you guys are going to bust my balls about the ammo estimate, yes I do go crazy when teaching and run classes far beyond the times and drills.  I love to see people shoot well and yes I tend to shoot more rounds then the lesson plan requires.

TJ's classes are as economical as they come....and the classes are great as the instructor.  I have never hesitated to take his classes when I have the time.
TJ is as good as they come.
