I just got a letter from Time Warner and it states that come July 19th, they will no longer provide service in my area.  I started with the AT&T cable internet and digital phone..that went to Comcast and then to Time Warner.  Verizon does not provide FIOS in my area even though they have torn up 3/4 of my yard installing their condiuts and boxes

So, it looks like it is back to AT&T.  Since the house was redone for digital phone, what all does it need to go back to analog?...or is there another digital phone provider out there?  On the internet side....what is involved with "self installation", they want more than $200 for a tech to come install whatever it is they install.

Here

ATT has changed their rates quite a bit and the services are better. The online prices are much more cost effecient as well.

I would also check into their no contract service. Same price just no contract so you can cancel at any time and not be charged for a termination fee. Even the lowest package supports enough packet flow for me to game online without lag.

What all would I have to do?  Just call them up?  I remember for both the cable internet and the digi phone they had to come and run cable all through the house.  Will I have to go through that again?  Kind of a hassle having to stay home for that....and the fact that both of them ended up coming after 6pm.

Their DSL is run through the phone line. All they do is send you a little black box and you plug it into your line and connect from there. Thats it. Their DSL speed is also faster than road runner for about half the price.

If you are going to settup then do it through the internet as the rates they will charge you over the phone are higher.

Good luck.

I'm starting to hate TWC as well.

Phone+cable+internet= $150 per month.

ETA:
uh, now I"m really pissed.  I just realized when doing bills now that the $150 is only internet and cable.  Phone is another $65.

Total TWC: $215.

They suck, plain and simple. I've never meet anyone who had anything good to say about them.

When they took over from Comcast, they left me without service for 5 days because they didn't have any technicians available to see what the problem was; when he finally came out, he said my modem was now outdated and I had to buy or lease a new one from them to continue using their services. At the same time, they raise my monthly fee by $20...  Needless to say, I was a little ticked off by that kind of welcome, so I told them to shove it and had FiOS installed that same week - much better service for nearly half the price.

The house doesn't have analog lines anymore.  The digi phone came in through the same cable as the internet.

will it still work?

With all due respect, DSL is NOT faster than roadrunner cable....i wish it was, but to get the same or similar speeds you have to tier up several levels of DSL to get close....and then the price relationship is certainly different that the standard DSL vs. Cable comparison.

You need to call them and negotiate.  I've got their cable with almost every channel and internet for just over $100.

You are right about the last part of your comment. The price is definetly different. DSL for the same or better speeds is cheaper than Cable.

Check you speed and check their speed. Bet you will be surprised. Things have changed during the last few years. How else would they stay in business.

And for the service I have Both my upload speed and download speed are faster than what RR and Cablelynx had to offer. Not to mention far cheaper as I do not have to pay for cable I am not using just to have the service.

RR as from their website
Contract Required
5Mbps downstream, 384 Kbps upstream (STD) $44.95 per month if your a cable customer add $5 if not

8.0 Mbps downstream, 512 Kbps upstream (premium)
$84.95  as a stand-alone
$69.95 with cable or phone
$64.94 with cable and phone

ATT
No Contracts (Month to month)
1.5 Mbps downstream, 384 Kbps upstream (express) No Term $19.99 per month
3.0 Mbps downstream, 512 Kbps upstream (pro) No Term $24.99 per month
6.0 Mbps downstream, 768 Kbps upstream (elite) No Term $34.99 per month

And I will stop there. Other incentives do apply such as several months free with the ATT stuff and mail in rebates etc. You do the math. I for one do not agree with those early termination fees wich is the #1 reason I am with ATT. I have transfered services 3 times to date and they haven't missed a beat.

My experience:

I am in a non-DSL and non-cable area.  For the past number of years I have tried Direcway (now Hughes) as well as Wildblue.   Wildblue was much more reliable than Direcway, however, neither was all that great (both are sattelite based).   I have had a Verizon wireless "air card" the last couple of months on a REV-A tower and have found it to not only be more reliable, and much faster (and I had the upgraded Wildblue bandwidth).   I am now going to cancel my sattelite service and go with my USB connected Verizon REV-A air card for all my internet needs.  It's super fast and VERY reliable, not to mention I use it on my laptop on the road in very rural locations.   That being said, if you can not get a REV-A connection (ie you just get the regular nationwide service) then it isn't all that great.   The Verizon REV-A network is really awesome.  It's as fast if not faster than my COX cable connection at my office.

Yeah you still have a delay during signal transfer for upload and download. Like when you are using a sat phone. Or for those of us who call overseas it takes a min to get your info across and wait for a reply. But for packet upload and download you can get a lot more out of SAT uplinks than DSL or Cable. Great for the transfer just crappy as hell if you game as you will always be dead due to the process time.

DSL bundled with Satellite isn't the only option with at&t anymore... there is a new product called "U-verse" ... ask around about it... Dallas market was launched a few months ago, its broadband is similar to VZ fios however, the TV technology is entirely different - its 100% IP based. Where as VZ is cable based with only IP based video on demand content. Currenty U-verse offers several hundresd SD channels, 50+ HD channels and we'll have more HD to offer in the next year... oops did I say "we"? lol ;)

at&t u-verse website

good luck in your search for quality broadband/tv!!!

p.s. all u-verse broadband packages offer up to 1mbps upstream:
Express
Downstream up to 1.5 Mbps
Upstream up to 1 Mbps
Pro
Downstream up to 3 Mbps
Upstream Up to 1 Mbps
Elite
Downstream Up to 6 Mbps
Upstream Up to 1 Mbps

Wouldn't it actually depend on how many cable subscribers you're sharing the pipe with?

I've never had cable, only DSL, but a buddy of mine had crazy speeds as an early [cable] adopter.  When the price got lower, and he was joined on the pipe, he got consistently lower speeds.  I even compared the two of us on speedtest.

I was on el cheapo ADSL (256/128) and my speeds were actually pretty close to that.  His speeds were close to advertised when he was still an early adopter, but were nowhere near close several years later.

You are correct.

As you see other people in the neighborhood come online with cable internet your speed will slowly decrease.  Eventually, the cable compandy will replace or upgrade equipment and your speed will be back to normal.

Calling and complaining about slow speeds or whatever can speed the process.

I've used cable all my life and never had a problem.  My one problem of extreme slowness was solved by replacing the cable modem.

the problem with statting RR or ATT has UP TO 6 MBPS is that is the MAXIUMUM you cant get.....what the hells the min????

we had this problem with our T3's and figuring out what the minum we would get was....you may have the ability to get 1,000,000,000,000 MBPS but may only get 2 mbps because you share the pipe or pathway with 10 billion people...

This is why we ALWAYS state the MIN in our contracts with internet service providers and not the MAX.

this was purely FYI just a thought to pass on
