Well I was down in Dallas from Friday until Tuesday taking the Dallas PD test and I'm happy to say that I passed everything so far the last thing I need to do is my background and since I really don't have anything in my background to worry about other then the things I told them I might have this job. I had a good time in Dallas it is a really nice clean looking city from what I saw I'm use to cities like Chicago and St Louis that are really dirty and anything that does not have a building on it is brown dirt. I think I'm really going to like it down in Dallas. |
I hope you get the job and enjoy working over there in BIG D, but trust me It has plenty of crime to keep you busy!!
|
I'm sure there is enough crime! Maybe after a few years I'll want to go to a department that is the big call`of the year was someones cows got out but right now I want to go to a place where I never know what is going to happen. |
My guess is it is a hell of a lot better them the 160 deg with a vest and sape plates that I had in Iraq!! Also no A/C in my humvee I swear I sweat in places I never know I could sweat. A good day is when you can take off your shirt and a few hours later it does not look like you just sprayed 2 cans of starch on it in Iraq! But I know I will have fun I hate city life but I love all the crime and fun it has to offer. |
If you liked Dallas you would really love Houston. (sarcasm here) I agree with the first person's reply about them keeping you distracted. |

just becacuse you work in dallas does not mean you are stuck with city life. One thing you will need to do in TX is realize that an hour drive is not far at all. LOTS of people live in Canton Tx, (and buddy, it's anything BUT city) and drive 60 miles or so to dallas everyday to work. There are plenty of places you can live that ain't the city. Good luck P.S. once you get here, start looking at the burbs for a job, they usually pay much better than dallas, or at least that's what all the dallas pd complain about. TXL |
That is what I'm aiming for after a few years in Dallas I can get a PD job most anywhere!
Nope your talking to a die hard Marine combat vet that hates IL and its gun laws and as long as you don't shoot at me or pull it out and point it at me I'm all good about everyone having a gun as long as you are a good person!! As it has been said your enemy's enemy is your friend. |

I too was at weekend testing this past weekend. As I understand it, background will begin in 4-8 weeks. Your guess is as good as mine as to how long it will take then. From what I've heard, I should go ahead and sign the contract to teach for at least another semester. Good luck with your background. As an aside, I would like to discuss your AIB but not in a public forum. Feel free to send a PM. ETA: Dallas pay may not be the best in the Metroplex, but their retirement is flat out awesome. I challenge anyone to beat Dallas retirement. 96% at 20 yrs with the option to exercise the DROP plan. Eligible for retirement at 50 yr old. |
When I was in Iraq I learned how to teach people to speak English but it might not work in Dallas. You'd be surprised how many people speak English when you put a 9mm to there head. |
Their head.

Those places are now known as "meth hotspots". |

Just keep your ticket book in low-ready..... the city's awash with roving gangs of 7-9 year olds toting Da-Glo Orange cap-guns! ![]() |
Prolly so as well...I'm not sure about west Dallas...but south east around Lemmon, and highway 75, and all that area...wouldn't wanna be there after dark.
