I own an Armalite AR10, and I was switching out the factory latch for a tactical (extended) style when I noticed that on the receiver where the latch point hooks into, that the indention is not very defined. So I tried pulling the charging handle back without disengaging the latch, and was able to with no problem at all. I haven't had a problem with the handle coming back when the bolt cycles, but I know that the latch should be operable. Has anyone ran across this before, and if so, what did you do to cure it? At this point, I'm tempted to take it to Robbie and let him look at it.
Thanks,

Robbie is a good choice if you're in his area.

Sounds like the mill just didn't finish the indentation for the latch. Dunno how tricky it is to fix...but should be fixable.

exact same thing on my ar 10

the normal latch works great, the tac latch does not seem to grab enough.

removing a little of the metal may help.

Not that big of a deal to me though.

be very careful with this mod.  i tried it a while back and just about ruined my upper.
it will wear away the notch and then even the stock catch will not hold.  i had to wallow mine out to get it to lock up.

so if you don't need it i would not put it on.

Installed the factory latch, works fine.
Many thanks,
