Just got back from visiting the inlaws in houston.  Actually i got out of there before it got cold.  while there I got to visit gander mt. for the first time.  and i was very impressed with the store.  Went to the one in sugarland.  They had guns galore and all out for your enjoyment minus the handguns.  Guess the old saying is true everythings bigger and better in Texas.

There is one in TYler as well.  They have more guns than any other store of any kind in East TX and North West LA.   THey have a HUGE selection.   That being said, prices are so so, HOWEVER, they will price match if you take a lower ad to them.   ALSO...unlike some of the other big stores, they are very ausalt rifle friendly.   They are also the only store with subsonic .22 ammo and other somewhat obscure items anywhere within 2 1/2 hours (travel time to Dallas) from here.  They also sell Pyrodex which is avoided by most other big chains.

We may have to make a stop there too when we are in east Texas next weekend for the IDPA match, gun show, and afternoon shoot at ETRPC.

I was at the one in Sherman the other day and talked to one of the managers.  I told him they need to sell AR parts and accessories, YHM ect.., not the cheap knock-offs like CTD.

Parts and accessories from Bushmaster and such.  He said the sales on blackrifles were better than expected and they were looking into the parts and accessories line.

I told him the only place that had a good selection where gun shows and that they would sell alot of parts and accessories in the store if they had them.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go into a store front like Gander Mountain and purchase a trigger spring or what-not without having to wait for a decent gun show?

With the buying power GM has and the amount of store fronts they have it would be very good business.

Here's hoping they listen to your sage advice, Fireblade.
Might be expensive, though. My wallet would definitely be thinner if I had a ready supply of AR accessories nearby.

I love the selction and stock of Gander MT. Too bad though that the Academy across the street has the same stuff for 20-30% less.

Gun stuff or just normal sporting good items?

Our Academy in Longview SUCKS as far as guns and gun parts.   Wal-mart has the same crap as our Academy (except for the handguns and a couple of Bushmasters).   As far as parts and accessories they have NOTHING.  Gander Mt. rocks!   At least in the Longview/TYler area.

The prices at gander mt aren't that good, but what you get is selection selection selection.  as far as i have seen anyways.  i also went the one in spring.  as the clerk at the sugarland store said that the spring store was bigger.

Now if we can just get GM and Academy in a price war on AR's.  Folk's around Sherman may now have some fun price matching between GM, Academy and Wally World.

I'd go talk to Cliff over at Best Pawn(FM691 and Texoma parkway), he'll probably be able to get it considerably cheaper than either Squander Mountain or Academy. Most ammo is cheaper at Wally Mart than either of those two.

I can never seem to get in there when he has one or I have the money. Last time I was in there he did have an interesting 9mm conversion on the rack.

Just ask what he can order one for

I do a lot of business over there, and his prices are normally quite a bit less than anyone else.

My girlfriend used to work at that 290 location when GM 1st got ARs.  I was impressed with the selection but not real impressed with the price.
