I was out at Austin Rifle and Skeet (between Manor and Elgin) yesterday and was talking to Stan, the old guy that runs the place. He was telling me that he's going to have to close it down next month ![]() It's really not going to matter if we loose the Second if they make impossible to find anyplace to shoot legally. |

My understanding is that the land is leased by the city, and basically the lease is being revoked. You should look into joining the Austin Rifle Club, which is just south of Manor. www.austinrifleclub.org They own the land that the range is on, so it's less likely to be closed (although its inevitable as the land surrounding the area gets developed). However, the rifle club is already looking for another location just in case. If I recall correctly, it's only $75/year, and the facilities are nice. I go there just about every weekend. |
I will probably do that, I sat through the orientation and filled out the app about a year ago and then didn't follow up on it. It looks like I need to do it now. I'm in the enviable position that I would be able to use the facilities mid week. That whole area between Manor and Elgin is building up fast and once the I130 loop gets going it will only accelerate. |
| Luckily, 130 is West of the range, so hopefully will have little impact on the range. The board of directors is being proactive about things and there's a significant sum of $$$ already set aside for land aquisition, so that's a good thing. Make sure you tell your fellow Rifle and Skeet guys about the club - the more members we get the better! |

wow that stinks. one of the few outdoor places i can go shoot at. i refuse to goto red's and pay $12 an hour and get yelled at for rapid fire. i was a part of arc many years ago but the drive was a little far when i was in school, now that i live up north, arc looks pretty appealing. aren't there some other outdoor ranges close by? eagle peak? |
I picked up a membership application yesterday and as I was filling it out, I see that I need a member as a sponsor. Would you be interested in acting as a sponsor for me? If so, email or IM me. Thanks, Jim |
