Was wondering how many guys here use Sprint for cell phone service? I have Cingular now and love it, but I'm on the phone quite a bit, and with the majority of people I know having Sprint, I could benefit using the mobile to mobile calling Sprint offers. How does Sprint's coverage compare to others? I'm in Dallas and never hear any complaints from friends about service here, but what about the rest of Texas. I travel out to far West and East Texas alot and almost always have service with Cingular, would Sprint be the same or worse? Thanks, Mike |
| My brother and i have sprint cell service, we live in the Houston area, we travel to utah every year and rarely have problems with phone service. their fair and flexible family plan is fairly nice, we pay like 59.99 a month for 450 minutes and 3 phones, but if we go over the charge only 5 dollars for every 30 minutes instead of .40-.45 cents a minute. not a bad deal IMHO. plus sprint has the fastets webphones on the market, their evdo service is as close to 300-600Kbps sustained data rate with 1.oMbps topout |
| I live in Houston and was very happy with Sprint until about six months ago. Almost overnight, very weak signal in several places. I'm looking to change providers after seven years partly because of that, and paying $160/mo for three phones is ridiculous. And the Indians in their call center screw up my account and extend my contract another two years every time I call. |

I am in the IT industry and have to deal with cellular providers all the time. Right now my company uses Sprint, but the coverage is shaky at best nation wide. And forget about any type of coverage in Mexico, South America and Europe. In my opinion, Cingular has the best network coverage, however, the data rates are very slow compared to the Sprint EVDO network. Rev1 should be hitting soon on EVDO to push it closer to typical broadband speeds, so if accessing your email or browsing is important to you then Cingular is definately out. Both have pros and cons, you just need to find out what is most important to you. Sprint : fast data network, spotty US coverage and no Int'l coverage Cingular : slow data network, excellent US and Int'l coverage (minus Japan since they use WCDMA). |
| I've had Sprint for about 4 years now and recently their coverage really has seemed to drop. I would say on an average week I have 10 dropped calls and it will go into roam in the middle of the DFW area and then back into sprint service. If I didn't have another year left in my contract I would dump them. My job uses sprint cards in our laptops and we constantly have connectivety problems and will be switching to Verizon. I have been very disappointed with Sprint and will be going to Verizon in a year. Friends that have their service get so much better reception in the same areas. They have 4 or 5 bars to my 1 or 2 bars. |

I have had Sprint for close to 6 years now and have never had any problems out here in East Texas. I travel to DFW & Houston frequently and never have any bad reception areas. We have traveled to San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Galveston and Fredericksburg on vacation in the last few years and only had problems with service in the Fredericksburg area. I also have no service from just North of Nacogdoches to near Lake Murvaul in the Carthage area where our Boy Scout camp is located. It works at the camp after I get there. I have never had a dropped call as long as I am in the Sprint PCS network. For the few areas that my Sprint phone doesn't work I have a TracPhone to use. BigDozer66 |

Have been with Sprint for about 5 years now, have watched the growing pains along the way, they have really come a long way, but still have far to go. The EVDO network is supposedly teh bomb. My Treo 650 isn't optimized for that (the Treo 700 apparantly has some kind of broadband chipset), but the data rates are respectable for email and web surfing for pretty much all of their phones. My only big gripe about Sprint is that when I'm in certain places like supermarkets, my phone goes into either digital roam or analog roam. Pisses me off. No one wants to pay roam rates. Prior to my Sprint service, I was with Cingular - formerly SBC Wireless (from 97 to 2001), which at the time really sucked (IMO), but they have grown as well, so I shouldn't comment on their current levels of service. I hear they are better now, but I digress... |

Was with Sprint for a year back in 03-04. Hated it. Cust services sucks. On hold for hours. Drop calls quiet a bit in dntn Dallas. Lousy phone selection, even to this day. I am with Cingular, and I don't think I will ever leave. Roll over minute. Great reception with their GSM network. Phone selection is awesome. You can buy any unlocked GSM phone out there and use it on their network. Also their 3G network is up and running in major cities if you are into that. I can pretty much get a hold of a live CS person in matter of seconds not hours like Sprint. I have never had a drop call with Cingular. Traveling all over CA, all over TX, LA, NYC, VA, FL, and MD. Always had good reception. |

Sprint service is terrible. I had it for awhile a few years ago and didn't like it, so I switched to Nextel. Loved Nextel, but guess who bought Nextel-you guessed it-Sprint!! Now I'm back to dropped calls all the time and terrible coverage. I can't wait until my contract is up!!! |
I was in Burnet Texas (about 40 miles from I 35) last week and still had a great signal. I have been with Sprint for about 7 years now and have had very good luck with them. Whenever I have had a custoner service, or billing issue they have been worked out quickly and to my satisfaction. I don't have a home phone, so I use my mobile all the time. My plan also has no roaming, which is nice. |
