I spoke with the Texas CHL department last week. The lady told me that they were about 60 days behind in entering applications. I have had some issues with mine and had to renew it only after 9 months- clarical issue!!!! About 6 months ago I was trying to talk with them regarding this and the lady I spoke i with was stubbern and down right rude. My understanding is that they did some house cleaning recently and there are several people that are gone that had very bad attitudes. The lady I spoke with last week was very nice and helpful. It took 53 days for my renewal to come in yesterday. Unless they have increased the staff there are only three ladies who take care of this stuff. That is why they have been so gruff to some on the phone or so I've heard. Add in the fact that there has been a big increase in the number of first time applicants in the last year or so and you can understand why it takes so long sometime. |

They just got my application into the system about a month after I put it in the mail (and I live in austin). I just received a letter saying I needed to prove my US citizenship since my place of birth was out of country. Now what does that add.. another month of processing |
afraid it starts it all over............not including the time it will take for you to get them the paperwork. All mistakes go to the bottom of the pile, just like when you sent it in.............. |
Good grief! I hope that my application does not suffer a similar fate.. ![]() lsujim - man I'm sorry to hear this happened to you....this is for the State Worker who is adding time to your wait ----->

Gah! I wish they'd put instructions on the application saying if you're born outside the United States, please provide proof of citizenship. It would have saved a ton of time for everyone! Guess I'll email my CHL instructor and inform him of my problem. Maybe he can pass this information onto his future students. |

First time was about 120 days. My renewal packet was sent off about two months ago, but I received a refund of 35 bucks, that for my classification, it is only 35 dollars for a renewal. They were really nice on the phone, and the lady told me my card should be to me in about a month. I asked her about carrying under my creds, under HR218. She said that was why I am getting a 35 dollar refund. As long as I have my creds and duty weapon, I am ok. When I get my CHL, I can carry any Semi Automatic since I qualified with a different weapon. But, I am under the same auspices as anyone else carrying under their CHL. If I carry under my creds and HR218, I can carry in court and a few other places. God only knows if your Department or Agency is going to cover you in an off-duty shooting. |
| Wow, that was fast! I just got my renewal last Saturday, 61 days box-to-box. I was not happy (until Sat.). Three phone calls in the last few weeks yielded three different excuses: it's just been sent to the printers, waiting to hear from the county, and waiting on the FBI. All those to whom I spoke were very curteous. The last one offered to call me when it went out, and she did. |
