South East Texas Sportman's Club huh? Not sure I'm familiar with it by name, went out to Dirty Harry's in Vidor, I kinda like it and plan on goin' back. Built a reactive target at the shop, gonna take it out there and test it with my HK and NHM. ps - South Park trash here t |

Yeah it's out on 105 south of Vidor and north of the 1435 I think it is. It's near a natural gas pumping station of some sort. Never been to dirty harry's, I like SETSC hardly any members usually when I shoot its by myself or whoever I bring. No real rules other than common sense. Hey I don't knock on South Park. My grandpa graduated a greenie and my grandma was a BHS purple......makes for interesting high school stories from those two.

Never been there. When I got tired of Leger's and went looking for a gun club I tried to get info for there but couldn't ever get a reply to email or a phone call answered. I wanted to join there cause apparently it's a real nice place and open 24 hrs to members, which I've never had the opportunity to shoot at night. I think the dues are high though versus where I'm at now it's only $40 a year(plus a $30 one time start up) and you get unlimited guests and a discount on guns if you buy from them. Golden Triangle Gun Club is nice, been there a few times but I don't know how they are with just tearing it up(safely of course) with an Ar. I've heard two different feelings. If you ever make it back down here I'm trying to get more black rifle owners to join. I honestly think that is the only people that make up the club so far. I've never met any other members but there is a always a ton of 5.56/.223 and 7.62x39 brass/steel laying around. |
If you ever want to check it out let me know and I'll be glad to take you. It's not the prettiest place to shoot but I like it. Got a short rifle range out to 50 or 75 yds. 100, 200 yd ranges are there and they are or were rather (they might be done by now) 300 and 400 yd range. Skeet/Trap field and pistol range out to 25. The short rifle rangeis covered along with the pistol. the long distance rifle ranges aren't covered as of yet. They used to allow shotguns but jackasses(pretty sure it was day shooters) kept shooting up the targets stands so they said no to them. Gonna try and see if I bring my own targets stands if they'll let me bring my shotguns. |

Dirty Harry's is pretty small but easily serves the purpose. $5 to shoot all day, rapid-fire is okay, nice lil drive out 105 south of Vidor through the tall pines. The uncovered pistol range is on one side of the onsite gunsmith shop, covered rifle on the other. If I can score some reasonably priced 308 then I might take ya up on a Black Rifle Party. Been tryin' to finish up this batch of South African with my HK91 and CETME, gonna keep my eyes open for some SA out've a different lot # and also some Portugese, then it's party time! Then again, 3rd bursts have shown me I need a buttpad before I get too frisky with emptyin' mags out've either one. The NHM is another story though, it does fine except for the scope mount but hope to cure that soon too. t |

Bump...for anyone around the Golden Triangle that missed this post. By the way, I work at a fabshop in Beaumont and ran into some AK shooters at another shop in Orange. Any of you guys here? update: went to the Lake Charles show, it was slow but still interesting to look around. Saw two MP5 semis, 2500 & 2700 bucks. Missed a sweet lookin' FAL for 500 cash. t |
Will have to check SETSC out next time I am down. I really want to find a place that would let me practice some transition drills from rifle to pistol. That and maybe a little shotty work if I bring my own targets. EPOCH |
