Match fees are pretty cheap. You should definetely give it a try.

If any of y'all haven't shot an IDPA or carbine match, if you can make it, go to Texas Tactical's matches. They're a great group of laid back guys that are very fun to shoot with. It's the most fun you can have with a pistol or carbine!
