Is there anyone in Lubbock? I'm currently a grad student at Texas Tech, just curious if there is anyone in the area. |
They get cranky about quick follow up shots with the ar when I'm out there. I shoot a lot at patriot, I've been doing the IDPA stuff on sat mornings. When I'm shooting rifles I'm almost always at my family's ranch in central texas or my family's (other side) land in the mountains of NM. |
I will never see you then. I'm just a lowly 'ol undergrad psych student. ![]() Maybe I'll get to meet you at the Hun Farm. |
I hope so. Still have to recover from my surgeries. Haven't worked since April 20th. I'm on sick leave pool. Have two artificial knees and fused bones in my foot! |
|
The Hun Farm is a good thing from what I hear. Haven't been there yet but hope to make it. I have a friend who owns a big ranch near Post. Maybe if I ask him nice I can get him to let us use a piece of his land to shoot on. He lets an off road motorcycle club use a piece to ride on. He does have a lot of cattle, so it will have to be out of the way. It is on and off the Caprock, so there must be a good place somewhere. I'll ask him! |
Yeah, thats kind of far away. If we kept it down to 10 or so, my friend might be agreeable. He also has some exotic sheep on his land, and has allowed some Dallas Cowboys players to hunt them. So I will have to be real diplomatic when I talk to him. Don't really have any idea what he might say, you never know, but it's worth a shot. ETA: He did let my department at Tech put one of our weather stations on his land. |
I would sell my left arm for a place to go shoot further than a 100 yards around here. |
I avoid University like the plague, but I thought McDougal bought everything on it and tore it down? |
They pretty much did, but there were quite a few holdouts. Seems mcdougal doesn't have the money to completely redevelop the entire neighborhood like once though. |
The McDougals are probably saving money for the upcoming wrongful death lawsuit. |

I spent 5 years in the LBK, and I still miss it. I am in Austin now, my home, but Lubbock is a GREAT place. I still get up there quite a bit to visit friends, hunt, and watch football. One of my best friends runs hunts out of Tulia (hour north of LBK). If any of you guys ever get the itch to go, call him up. His dad farms an unGodly number of sections and he knows just about everyone else. You WILL have a good time, and he will put you on the birds. Ditch parrots, dove, quaily birds, ducks, cranes, and geese are his deal. Here is his website. Great guy. Tule Creek Outfitters |

Thx Ttufin...i bookmarked that link I am moving to Lubbock next month. I live in AZ now with 70%+ public land so I am a little nervous about the hunting opportunities there. Anyone know how to get into a lease for under $2k or am I dreaming? I'm looking at homes in Ransom Canyon, I really like it there, I don't deal with flat scenery very well. |

Deer lease for $2K? Leases are damn expensive these days, BUT the Panhandle is more affordable I think, mainly because it is a little harder to get to. You will have to get off the Caprock to find some suitable land. It might be possible with no improvements or utilities I suppose. We have hunted in South Texas for more than 10 years, and don't even get me started on what we are paying. It will make you cry!! For two footed critters: Hell, there are a lot of people who just drive out somewhere, knock on a farmer's door, and ask if you can hunt his playa lake. Sometimes they say yes and to pick up your shells. Sometimes it might cost you a bit or sometimes they are already leased by someone else or they are assholes. There are more outfitters up there now, than when I was up there as a Freshman, which means a lot of stuff is already leased I bet. We had access to a feedlot drainage pond out by Muleshoe......probably 2,000-3,000 ducks there a morning. The whole area up there is some of the most overlooked hunting area in the state I think. Waterfowl hunting is awesome, dove hunting is the best in the State I think, minus down South at times. We used to hunt before class, after class, and all the time on the weekends! Damn, I miss that. You will like it for that, trust me! Don't forget you are not that far away from the Mountains either!!! Dane, the guy who runs Tule Creek, is up in Trinidad chasing Elk and Mulies right now. It is less than a 4 hour drive I think! You are right in that it is flat. You can stand on a tuna fish can and see Armadillo from Lubbock! However, flat means you can see forever and you will see some of the greatest sunsets/sunrises ever. There are not many things that are better than calling ducks in a playa on a cold, crisp Texas Panhandle morning! I am not really sure why they call Montana "Big Sky Country"?? Lubbock has big skies no doubt! Oh yea, don't forget about the dust storms, when it rains mud!! |
Unfortunately, it wasn't out here this year. It was down there. It wasn't really too good of a game. I'm avoiding answering my phone.

Damn, mcgrubbs. That should be a pretty good drive from you.......... how often're you in Lubbock? |
