I was just wondering if it was considered the same to carry your CCW in a saddle bag on your motorcycle as in your car. I know that TX recently approved an extention of CCW in your car as your "home." I was just wondering if it applied to motorcycles as well.
I wanted to know for before getting a CHL.
Thanks in advance

Correction: It has always been legal to carry a handgun while travelling, but the prosecutors and judges have twisted and contorted the definition to mean "overnight stay, change of clothes, three counties, etc" from the original word travelling which has a common definiton but not spelled out in the law (because it is a common word)- "to go from one place to another". The original is still there, and it is a valid defense, however the addition to the law undoes all of the twisting of the definitions when travelling by "private motor vehicle".

Just get your CHL, and remove any uncertainty.

I used to drive a motorcycle exclusively when I was about 19.
When I wanted to shoot my Mac-90, i had to strap it on my back, and hit the road.
You can't imagine the crazy looks I would get
I would call the sherriffs dept. first to make sure some noob JBT wouldn't blow me off the bike, and they would say
cop: "You need to take the backroads".
me: "you know I don't have to".
cop: "well....it's just best if y..(click)"

I bet they hated me, there's no telling how many phone calls they got because I was going to shoot.

And what happens when you go into a restraunt - gonna leave your gun out in your saddlebags?  I've not found a good way to "secure" a pistol on/in my bike.... at least not as secure as "on my person".

Texas law says "when travelling" - so you are still travelling when you make a pitstop and go into a restaurant to eat - carry it in with you - pretty simple if you ask me....(travelling is going from one place to another)

I may be mistaken, but "travelling" only relates to a concealed weapon within one's vehicle, not on their person.  I would expect that if one were caught in a restaurant with a concealed weapon and no CHL, UCW charges would be promptly filed.

The law says travelling -- it does not stipulate anything else.  The new law addition also presumes someone is travelling if they meet 5 criteria.

and one of the five is that you are in a privite vehicle..

the way i understand it < and man that aint saying much>

is that I can have it in the car.. but if I stop to put gas,,, the weapon must stay in the car.. otherwise UCW..

can someone pls get arrested so we can know one way or the other..?

eta:

damn yall are talking about a motorcycle.. not a car...

i was commenting on someone posting that eating is "traveling"  i guess but for this law... only if you eat in the car and it stays concealed ....

for this law.. when the weapon leaves the vehicle and you have no CHL... you now have a UCW charge..   so no making a pitstop and "taking it with you " doesnt fly..
