I just did.  Walked out on my back deck.  Lights were off.  Had to recycle something.  And my toes on one foot stepped on something cool and soft, before my brain registered the sensation my other toes stepped down as well.

SNAKE!!!

I jumped halfway over the house, circled around and came back inside to turn on the light.

Holy Crap!

I do NOT want to EVER feel that again.

You could not pay me money to step on a snake, non-poisonous or venomous.  And I just did it for free!

Whew!!

Yikes!

I'm always very cautious when I open the door to go outside at night, as I once found a skunk rooting around in the shrubs, just off of my patio.

That would not be a pleasant surprise either.....

Yeah, this happened to me about a month after I bought my first home.

Coming home from the grocery store w/ my girl one night, we were toting in some supplies when I step on something that I immediately assumed to be the water hose.

But wait, the water hose was in the back yard!

When I look down, I see this 4ft Water Moccasin coming towards me. I continue in my original direction, then around some bushes, and double back to the car. I make sure that girlie knows, and she's immediately all curious about it, and I'm like, "NO!, STAY AWAY FROM IT".

When we first rolled into the driveway, I saw that my neighbours are shooting pool in their garage next door, so I head over there and tell them I've got a water moccasin in my doorway. So, my neighbour wanting to make a good impression, grabs a shovel and garden hoe, we both head back to my place to rid of the serpent.

Luckily for the snake, he had headed off by the time we got there.

Unluckily however, he turns up a few doors down, and my other neighbours chase him towards the gutter , then behead him accordingly.

Lots of kids in that neighbourhood, not to mention the fact that in the subdivision, the backs our our houses were literally on the edge of a greenbelt, with a big creek running thru, less than 100 ft from our collective fence/property lines.  Lots of hungry snakes, and many other wildlife come calling rather frequently...

Well James...

I did not realize how sporty I was.  Something about the feeling of scales underfoot!  LOL

the real question is:

Did you draw down?

Draw down?

Nope!  I jumped away, tried to plan my escape, and quickly retreated.

Goat vs. Snake.  Snake won.

today for me

osphoing a tank, moved my ladder to the left a few feet, started to take a step onto it when i heard a rattle

stopped, assessed the sound, looked for a snake and there that little motherfucker was, about a foot away from the ladder, must have stepped RIGHT next to him moving it over

unpuckered my ass to the point where i could move again, retrieved an O/U 12ga and proceeded to blow him into three seperate pieces

empty shotshell and rattles now both reside together in my desk drawer

Must be kharma getting us.

BTW, a shotgun REALLY tears up the meat and hide.  Forked stick, pockeknife to the brain.  Much better.
