Help me out with some info.

The fam and I are going to be heading down there in a couple weeks and I need to know the "Do's and Do Not's" of the are!

Which areas to avoid and which is the best area to stay in!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed this is my 7777th post!

Thanks,

I have a place in Rockport, but when I stay in C.C. I stay at the Omni Hotel Bayfront (NOT THE MARINA) and I always make it a point to eat at Pier 99.
Nothing more to say other than relax!!!
The USS Lexington is always a hit for the kids and If you stay at the Omni your just a hop skip and a jump away from the Aquarium thingy.

For the Donts...
The only thing I would pass on is staying at a hotel that is on the same area as the USS Lexington.  They all seem to be run down.  Maybe one of the locals can tell you what this area is called.

That would be the "north beach area" They did finally get a new hotel over there that is pretty good looking the radisson came and made a hotel there but i do believe it is a bit over priced. What activities are y'all in to there are a few good activities you can get into. by the way i live in portland which is about ten miles from corpus across the causeway and tex rednec would be a good wealth of knowlege also he lives about twenty miles or so outta corpus.

Whats the difference between the two Omni hotels?

I'm going soon and wanted a room with a balcony facing the water.

The Omni people "say" that the Marina property is more kid friendly.  I just thought it was more run down.  The Marina is a couple blocks away and faces the Marina area.
The Deluxe Room With View shoud have you directly facing the bay and has the best view.  I think they call all the basic rooms a deluxe...but some of these have views of the AC units for the hotel and a slice of the water!!!  Maybe call and ask the hotel what rooms fit your requirements before booking.
BTW I decide to book this hotel use the hotel and not any travel service like expedia.  I tried it once.  You end up getting the worse room available.

Followed by parts of Leopard Street.  It's bad for your johnson (don't want it to fall off, do ya?).

If you like the beach JP luby and port A beaches are all right but don't go in too deep every once in awhile people get nibbled on by your favorite all cartilage fish.

Any gunshops or ranges worth visiting?

I was born in Corpus but moved away when I was 12 so I know my way around but I only remember the gunshop in the mall and the one on SPID. Surely there are other ones by now.

Thanks TexRdnec, I don't know how much free time I'll have but if I could hit one or two shops I'd be doing good.

Just the names of a couple of would work, I usually scan the phone book when I'm there. At least I'll know which ones are worth visiting.

Try the SharpShooter indoor range.  I believe it is located at the intersection of Staples and Airline.  Turn south off of SPID to go in their direction and they will be stuck back in a corner of a strip shoping center.  They have two or three bays and one of them is 35 yds long.  I left Corpus in '99 so anything could have changed for the better or for the worse by now.  The hotel that was recomemded is a nice one and stay away from the North Beach area hotels is you are looking for nice.
