| I went with my family yesterday to Six Flags over Texas in Arlington. Let me say first off, I am a LEO. I had my Gerber pocket knife with me that I carry everywhere...they made me leave it in security......here's the kicker, I was allowed to carry my gun!! WTF gun vs knife HELLO!?!?!?!?!? Allison |
I see the same thing all the time. Crazy rules, laws, regulations. The State 'trusts' me with a firearm, except in a school. When is the last time you heard fo a teacher shooting up a school? I guess 'they' think that my presence in a school might drive me mad, and I would 'suddenly' go crazy and start shooting the place up? <crickets> And when is the last time you heard of teachers and students being terrorized by armed gunmen? TRG |
Hell, none of the rules make sense to me. Especially the 'no guns' in school part. Let criminals look for unarmed victims elsewhere. I asked my high school students to raise thier hands if they have EVER been stabbed by a knife in school. No hands raised. I asked them to raise their hands if they carried a knife to school. Most hands raised. I then asked them to raise their hands if they had ever been stabbed by a pencil in school. Most hands raised. Pencils are more likely to be used to stab a student than a knife. Ban pencils. TRG |
I assume they made you walk through the metal detector and that is how they found it? Haven't been back to Six Flags since I WAS NOT allowed to take my gun in, left it in trunk and it was stolen. |
I guess, just like schools, they think the air in an amusement part must spark insanity. Suddenly, you would no longer be able to control your urges. TRG |
| I worked as a commercial diver for many years. Back in the 80’s I would fly out of New Orleans once a month. The knife used by most commercial divers at the time was a Big Chief made by Queen Steel. It is a folding knife with a thin almost stiletto 4 inch blade. They wear cheap and we would buy them in 1 dozen boxes. So I would some times have a dozen or more of them in my carry on bag. NOW they take your finger nail clippers. There is no logic just a bunch of unthinking twits following instructions. |
The law changed several sessions ago and now they do need to put one up to ban CHLs. § 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun: b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person: ... (5) in an amusement park ... (i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06. Instead of striking it from the law, they added section (i). |

We had a nice thread about this last year. archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=8&t=179682 With the number of stabbings they have had outside the park and the gang fights they have had inside looks like their "security" isn't doing a very good job. I can kinda see the point of no firearms because of the violence of some of the rides but a frickin 3 inch pocket knife.....get real. BTW the no knives rule must apply to the vendors too. I laughed my butt off at a chick in one of the food booths trying to cut open a box of cups with a plastic knife. |
I know that. DOH! I have been reformatting the wifes puter and trying to get all of her stuff back in. I am cross-eyed. Thanks for correcting that!
|
Mebbe use and/or pressure your professional organizations to lobby against BS regulations.......... When we worthless civilians do it, our organizations get labeled "wacko" and "right-wing". How about lending some cred to the cause? |
They already did and they do not give a crap about CHLs. There was a short period of time when Six Flags banned all guns including LEOs from the park. Arlington Police balked and applied pressure via refusing to work [off-duty] traffic details around the park; Six Flags backed down and made an exception for LEOs. |
Maybe what they need is a CHL boycott of the place. They won't need traffic details when they don't have any customers. |
Hey Trey, Last time I went was a couple of years ago and they had a table setup where they were going through purses and backpacks. They were also wanding everyone. Don't recall seeing a 30.06. |

Michael, Thanks. I've been told they've been CHL unfriendly from the start, and never had a need to go there until now. On a theoretical level: what I want to know is their security set up...are they charged with protecting the physical premises of the park and its employees, or are they charged with my and other patron's personal safety. It would seem to me that if their security's job is only to protect the park, and not me, personally, from harm, that if harm did come to me, and they prevented me my right to self-defense, that they would open themselves up for lawsuit. Of course, that's all theoretical. I'm sure it wouldn't be something that someone else would conclude. |
That's exactly what I was *not* referring to. An LEO exception isn't good enough for me (non-LEO), and the spirit of the damn thing *shouldn't* be good enough for LEO organizations or their members. I'm sorry for your inconvenience, Allison, but I'm not going to lose much sleep over it. I know you're a good guy, but until the rights of us lowly civilians get any kind of recognition/respect from your orgs, I'm not going to get up in arms (pun intended Please note - this is not a personal jab, rather abject disapproval of the stance taken by the orgs which represent you and other LEOs. From the perspective of Six Flags.......... they've got security guards to do your job for you. ![]() ETA: Shoe......... meet Other Foot. |
Oh, well then on that point (gun vs. knife) I agree with you 100%! OTOH, I've known plenty of both (security guards and LEOs [and some that have done both]). I've known some sec. guards who were more professional than some LEOs, but I've also known some sec. guards who shouldn't be guarding a remote radar station in Siberia (so to speak). I don't mind ppl (LEO or sec. guard or other civvies) helping me with my job (protecting myself and my family), but I have a really big problem with not having the option to do it at all....... whether on a rural Texas road, in the middle of Big D, or in Chicago, for that matter. Best, Jake. P.S. For the record, I *understand* why LEO/police orgs take the stance they do........... they're advocate/advocacy orgs, so no one matters to them but the folks they represent. I just find it antithetical to the spirit of "peace officer-ing" that they do so. |
Believe it or not, it really is a hazard at some schools. Mine is relatively okay. But, if students can bring drugs into schools, then what makes people think they can't bring guns or knives? IMO, I think the teachers should be handed out firearms for their protection. If you look at the past, I have never heard of a teacher shooting, all I've seen is students, which is pretty sad. |
