USPS often leaves oversized packages on my doorstep in the middle of the day.  Earlier this week, it seems I had one disappear (likely stolen).  The tracking number shows it was delivered, the postal carrier said she left it on the doorstep, but I do not have the package.  I don't understand how the USPS can consider leaving a large package on a doorstep in broad daylight as being 'delivered'?

Other than filling out the USPS Loss Of Mail for, what remedies do I have?  I do not think the seller insured the package, so who bears the loss here, shipper or receiver?

Man you just stated the process for everyone of the shippers out there unless delivery confirmation was purchased.

I would call and file a claim. UPS has done this to me many times including leaving my package on someone else's door and claim it was delivered to me(Even when the signature was other people's names)

I like to think it wasn't stolen, it's never happened to me before.  What's the chance USPS left the package on someone else's door?  I've checked with my immediate neighbors with no luck.  Timanator, what was your remedy when UPS did that?

We ship a lot of packages.  I've had a few returned and when I check the tracking number, it says it was delivered.  Funny, they consider sitting back in my mailbox, not the recipients mailbox, as being delivered.

Call their 1800 number, They will file a claim for you and try to settle it with you/sender and refund the money.

I've never had problems with USPS, I have had The Big Brown TURD  UPS drop packages off in the BAR DITCH by the County roadfront of my house. My house is only about a quarter of a mile from the road!!!

I saw it lying there and I  though who the hell keeps throwing all the damn trash out? Only to find 800 rounds of 8mm mauser that I had ordered sometime earlier!!!

Everywhere I have lived, if it did not fit in the mailbox, they left a note and told me to come pick it up at the PO the next day. I have NEVER had USPS leave anything outside of the mailbox, ever.

IMO, the seller has the obligation to deliver the package to you, just like you have the obligation to deliver the money to them.

Lately, I have had several packages sent back to the vendor.  No note was left on my door.  No explanation was given to the vendor.  Package was just sent back - maybe they were too lazy to even try to deliver it.

Given the regularity that I receive mail for a neighbor one block over (same number, different street), I can say that USPS SUCKS!

I've had a couple people e-mail to tell me something they mailed me was returned, and it was sent to the correct address.

It sounds to me that you should notify the FBI immediately!

+1.  UPS and FedEx have left stuff on my doorstep, but never USPS.  YMMV

BTW, I would call USPS and demand justice....and give them your business card.

I think you're SOL.  The shipper has "proof" it was "delivered", so does USPS.  It's a catch 22.

I don't think the FBI would do anything, this is a matter for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (but what do I know?).  Where's Cliff Claven or Newman when you need a good mail carrier!
