| Also, anybodyhave a good provider in the DFW area. |

Dish network also has PVR. just like TiVO We went back to digital cable at my house. Mainly because when bad storms come in, my TV would go out with satellite, when I need it the most. Cable now has a PVR, so we are happy. AND, on TVs where I don't need all of the channels, I can plug the cable straight into the TV. No box needed for each TV |

It kind of depends where your interests lie. My quick summary: 1) DirecTV better for sports packages. 2) Dish better in international programming 3) Dish slightly cheaper for basic programming. The cincher for me is the no-monthly-fee PVR function. You have the equipment, you never have to pay. It's not as full featured as the TiVo stuff, but I don't need all that fancy crap anyway. Just be sure that you can live with the restrictions of one receiver per TV if you're not used to it. |

There are any number of places you can go to that do three room installs for like $30. That's pretty much free IMO. The TiVo integrated units are in a class by themselves and the Dish DVR can't compare. Start with the price. I can get a TiVo unit for $80 as an existing customer. New customers can get them for almost nothing. All you have to do is agree to a one year contract ...big deal. From my understanding, the Dish units are $200 minimum. The Tivo units have two tuners. That means you can record two shows at once ...can't do that with Dish (so says the 2 people I know who have it). With the simplest computer skills, you can upgrade you Tivo to over 230 hours. I'm not sure you can do that with the Dish units. It's not so much I'm a DTV fan, but a Tivo fan. If DTV ever drops Tivo (and it's already in the works IMO), I will drop DTV. |

I've never seen the Dish guide. But it frustrates me to no end waiting for the DTV guide to change pages. That "Requesting Program Description" screen takes about 12 seconds for me - just tried it. Typing it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. But while I'm sitting there watching and waiting...
