I'm headed to Pruett's in the morning to pick one up, this is my first AR, but not my first .223      :)

I can't wait to run some rounds through it, but it's going to be like the weekend of the 24th-25th at the earliest.      :(

24th-25th???

What's the deal with that?  You need to shoot that weapon the same weekend you get it.

Bad luck not to . . .

CMOS

BTW, what are you going to pay for that if you don't mind tellind us?

Madhouse,
I've got a 25th Anniversary model, which is the same as the modular with the exception of some details pertaining to the limited edition, and it's a fantastic weapon!  You're going to absolutely love it.  Don't wait to shoot it.  Try to run several hundred rounds through it.  It's a dream to shoot.  Enjoy!

:)    Thanks guys - I'm looking forward to blasting some rounds through it.

I travel alot for work, and I'm entertaining my elderly mother who's in town for a week.  I *might* get out next weekend with it, but I'm not sure.  She leaves Saturday, then I leave Sunday for Kansas, back on Thursday and then I leave Friday for Florida, back on that next Wednesday...

Jim gave me a helluva deal CMOS, he met a price I found on the web for under $1200      :)

I almost forgot the real kick in the arse of the whole deal...

I went down yesterday morning with limited time, and of course the background check number was down.  Agghhh!!  So, I paid for the weapon and left it in Jim's hands.  Joy called me back as I was headed home and said the number came back up and I was set to pick it up, but I couldn't because I was already running late for something.  So, I've got a paid for, cleared AR sitting in Jim's safe and I don't know when I can get back out there to get it!

:(

Edit:  I met up with Jim today - he opened the store for me so I could get my AR.  Great guy!

Mad,

What exaclty is a "modular AR?"  I'm not familiar with that term.

Oh, congrats on picking up your new baby!

You can read about it here:

www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/pcwvml16f.asp

It has a bunch to do with their BMAS modular accessories system, swappability of parts and goodies, etc...??

Me like that rifle.

Is the barrel chrome-lined??

CMOS,
Yes it is.  It's almost identical to my 25th Anniversary Limited Edition.  It's a totally sweet weapon.  I added a Counterpoise recoil reduction system to mine and did the 5-minute trigger job.  It's as close to perfection as you could want.

Dragonfire - I'd be real interested to hear more about the trigger work you did.  Is it difficult?

The rifle is really nice, I can't wait to get it to the range.  There's a guy on another board that has offered to sell a Trijicon Reflex.  Are those good quick-acquisition sights?

I've got one of the 25th models, too. I love it!
One thing I've noticed is that the 25th ann. is cataloged as having the v-match upper, but the modular carbine is not listed as such. Is this an oversight, or is that the one feature that the 25th has that the mod-car does not (minus the plated parts and engraving)?

dep - is that something I can verify for you by just looking at the weapon?

Madhouse,
The trigger job is easy as long as you are adept at following directions.  I got it from the AR15 board-build it yourself site.  You can access the information on the following website: www.geocities.com/molonlaberkba/triggerjob.html
Also, I was wrong........it's a 15 minute trigger job......not a 5 minute one!  It is easy to do though, so have at it.
As far as the Reflex sight......I've shot with one mounted on a friend's AR, and it's OK. It has the advantage of not needing a battery.  However, I have an Aimpoint Comp M2 on my AR, and I really prefer it to the Trijicon Reflex.  It's just a matter of preference(like many other things), but if you can try one of each(and maybe the EOTech Holosight as well as any of the ACOGs), you will be able to make an informed decision.  Cost is a major factor though, and that's where the Aimpoint shines.  It's a bit over $300 whereas the ACOGs are much more.  It also depends on whether you want magnification or not.  Good luck!
                Peace,

Thanks, but I don't know how to tell just by looking at it. I checked the top of my barrel, nowhere on it says "v-match". I would think that both have it.

I've been gone for a few days, have you been able to sneak out and shoot yours yet, or are you still waiting till the 24th?

When I built my M4 I seriously considered the Aimpoint COMP-ML2 the AGOC.  Truth be told, had I been able to afford the ACOG I would have gotten it because it's good for CQB with the BAC (Bindon Aiming Concept) reticel - and - you also get the benny of magnification.  I got the AIMPOINT and  have not been disappointed.  Super sight for the price.  Here's my toy:

CMOS,
Nice weapon!  The Aimpoint is hard to beat.  It allows very fast target aquisition.  If you put a killflash filter on the front of it, the red "signature" is virtually eliminated.

Yeah dep - I did get to sneak out last Saturday and run some rounds through it.  The shooting was excellent, felt great.

I also sighted in my Mini-14 Ranch, since I put on a 7x Burris scope.     hat
