Thanks Mike!  I won't be able to make this one...but I'm definately in for the March IDPA at the Hill Country range.  I should be receiving my first AR sometime within the next couple of weeks...look forward to meeting you guys and getting involved in these matches.

Mike,
this is a bit OT for the IDPA match but i've been wanting to ask this for a while. I would like to shoot in your Tac Carbine matches but don't own a handgun. (OK, that's not really true. I have a S&W .38 snubby. i don't consider this at tactical handgun.) i would rather just shoot my AR and work on those skills. At the same time i want to stay true to the training and spirit of the competition. Can i come out and train or should i stick a crow bar in my wallet and spend the time and money to become proficent with a pistol first?
thanks,
CD

I don't pretend to speak for Mike, but I noticed he didn't answer and there is a Carbine Match next weekend.

Go with whatever you have.  Most of the time, the pistol is just there if you have a malf.  Not always, though.  I'd shoot the snubby if that is what I had.  You may want to bring a knife also.  Sometimes you need it for the stage.

The Carbine matches are a blast.  The matches are incredibly safe.  Some folks go with the intent of winning, some go for training, some go for fun.  You get out of it what you want.  The ROs are great.  I have some great memories.

I have tendonitis in my rt elbow now, and haven't shot IDPA in a while (?month).  By the end of the work week, I'm hurtin'.  Holding my pistol wouldn't be fun.  But I think I can shoot the rifle, so I'll probably go next weekend.
