I'm looking for a reputable smith or individual to do some minor work done on an AR; unfortunately I don't have a vise or the necessary tools at this time, but that will change.

Anyhow, are there any smiths located along the I-79 corridor, say from Morgantown to Charleston?

The hardest part there is the FSP I believe. I've never done one, but you should be able to just drive the pins out or drill them out. Might have to use a different FSP for the install. The rest is cake. If its all factory install, you probably dont need a vise to take off the muzzle device. It will break loose without too much problem.

If I had done a FSP before, I would offer to do it over a few days since I can get to a vice at work for the re-torque on barrel nut. Just go DD RIS II

The "how" isn't the problem.....

I hate to invest in the tools right now since it's only about a 20 minute job. I'll get around to the vise, etc. I just have to acquire a few more items that are higher on the priority list.

Think of it this way though.. invest the time and money into the tools now, so you can work on it whenever. If it goes down for any reason, it will be down unless you can get it to someone who can fix it.

You can also ship the upper to ADCO for the assembly service and have peace of mind too. I sent a barrel in for Pin and weld and they were super fast with it.

Depending how that FSP is on there, it might be a major pain to remove it, I had one on one of my ar's and I wanted to put a free float hand guard on it and it would not come off, so I ended up having to have it cut down and ground down to fit under the hand guard.

Edit: I should clarify I had this done a while ago by a friend who does not live in this area. Pretty much just used a metal grinder lol

Front sight pins are a taper pin and will only drive out from one direction... Just in case you decide to try it on your own.
