I'll be leaving Syracuse, KS just before Thanksgiving and moving to Kansas City for a new position within the company. I'd prefer to live south or southwest of KC in the country, but realize that finding a place in the country on short notice is pretty difficult. I'll be working in the Corporate woods of Overland Park so if I do live in the city, I'd like to be within 15-20 minutes.
I'm somewhat familiar with KC as I lived in Adrian, MO two years ago for a few months for work. The point of this thread is to feel out good areas/bad areas of the city to live. No desire to live in an apartment and I am engaged so wherever I live, I want it to be as "safe" of an area as possible. Any suggestions on neighborhoods / parts of town to look into or avoid are greatly appreciated. If anyone has any leads on rentals in the country outside of KC, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll be cross posting this in the MO HT forum. |

Honestly, you cant really go wrong in the southern area. Overland Park/Olathe - Anywhere from 151st street and south, between I-35 (Olathe Side) to Nall (Overland Park side). This area has anywhere from $195k homes to 3 million dollar homes. There is a lot to choose from. All in good areas. The further south you, you area heading towards Spring Hill. While Spring Hill isn't a bad area, I would say that you would want to stay NORTH of Spring Hill - in the square I basically drew.
Welcome to the area! What do you like to shoot? Thanks, Mike |

Thanks, Mike Thank you for the info. I'm looking forward to get back in the area. From a shooting perspective... anything. Pistols, rifles, shotguns... anything. I'm a big bow hunter so I'm into archery as well. If I'm going out to just blast away though, I like to shoot clays or rimfire the best. May have to meet up with some fellow arfcommers to burn some powder. |
| Stilwell (one day will annexed by Overland Park) Spring Hill and Gardner are good places. Spring Hill is a little backwards and spotty in their development. Gardner has more of a plan they go off of for development. There is a new intermodal railroad facility just to the West of Gardner so be aware of that. |

I will have a house for open rent in Olathe starting January 1st. 151st and murlen area. Hit me up if you're interested. ETA: PM sent with some further details. I live south of that area. It is a good area from 151st south to and past 159th. Homes are in the low 170s (closer to 151st street) to 600k+ (closer to 175th with land). Also - Google Fiber just approved the neighborhood around 159th and Murlen/Ridgeview area. It is great to have Gigabit internet! |
