Hey gang,

Mrs. KAD and I are going to Myrtle Beach in August for a little getaway.  We'll only have two full days to spend, so what are some good things to do?

I was planning on bringing a CCW with me.  I checked the basics on Handgunlaw, but any other info would be welcomed.

You can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol but cannot "sit" at the bar. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Skip the "Calabash" seafood joints and head south to Murrells inlet. Plenty of great seafood places there.

As stated above, plus...

If you have only 2 days, just relax.

MB just has too much crap that you "can" do and too much traffic to want to deal with trying to do most of it.

I will add, though, that the second half of August will be a little tamer than the first half since the first half will be full out crazy busy due to everyone trying to squeeze one last vacation with the family.

Relax and enjoy SC.

Rioz Brazilian Steak House is an absolute must.  I think 29th Ave.

King Kong Sushi, Carolina Forest is also much worth your time if you are a sushihaulic

Other than that, stay away from the Boardwalk area.   It is a cesspool.  Enjoy the beach but if you go on a late night beach walk, you best keep your CW close.  Lots of gang shit down on the boulevard.

Jetpig probably means the real board walk in downtown Myrtle Beach, not the shopping place with a similar name. There is a major shopping/restaurant/ and entertainment complex known as Broadway at the Beach that is worth checking out. Also, for eating and beach fun in a lower density family friendly setting, go south to the Surfside Beach/Garden City beach area. Eat lunch at the Conch Café in Garden City while looking down onto the beach. Eat at one of our favorite seafood places in Murrels Inlet just below Garden City, IE Grahams Landing, Russell's Seafood Grill, Inlet Kitchen, or Marshview Grill. Or at the South Side Grill on Hwy 17 in Surfside, (only open evenings Wednesday thru Saturday), family run, small but very worth the effort to find it, Great food all around and WOW desserts. Generally, avoid the giant size seafood restaurants. As others noted, avoid any place with the name Calabash attached to it, unless you want to actually drive up to Calabash, NC and eat at one of the places on the river. Tanger Outlet Malls have two locations in the Myrtle beach area. If you are into the Nature Scene, drive south down to Brook Green Gardens and spend at least 1/2 day there wandering around, if the weather is fit for that, (50/50 chance in mid August). If the weather is not hot early in the morning, Breakfast at the Surf Diner on the pier in Surfside Beach is nice and relaxing, just don't be in a hurry. Crazy Golf/Putt Putt type places are about every mile apart up and down the 17 business strip. The one near the zip lines downtown runs through buildings and out up onto the roof, pretty radical.

Have Fun.

You cannot consume alcohol.

There is no distinction in SC law of a bar area vs. the rest of a premises of business selling alcoholic liquor, beer or wine for on-premises consumption.  See SECTION 16-23-465(B)(1).  Restaurants can post against carry.  In my not so humble opinion based on the wonderful restaurants nearby that post, this typically means they're more interested in putting drunks on the road (i.e. liquor revenue and "everybody having a good time") vs. respecting your safety involving both your CWP and your travels on the roads.

From SECTION 16-23-465:

"(B)(1) This section does not apply to a person carrying a concealable weapon pursuant to and in compliance with Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23; however, the person shall not consume alcoholic liquor, beer, or wine while carrying the concealable weapon on the business' premises. A person who violates this item may be charged with a violation of subsection (A).

"(2) A property owner, holder of a lease interest, or operator of a business may prohibit the carrying of concealable weapons into the business by posting a "NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED" sign in compliance with Section 23-31-235. A person who carries a concealable weapon into a business with a sign posted in compliance with Section 23-31-235 may be charged with a violation of subsection (A)."
