My wife and I have been looking in Horry County unfortunately we cant get down there often to check out other areas. We need some good restaurant and some good culture are we looking in one of the better counties ? We don't want to be anywhere near Myrtle Beach. Give us a few good locations and we will take it from there . This is not easy remotely but I only get so much time off.

I would avoid Horry County...you may be far from the beach, but you are right in the middle of beach traffic.  You might want to look a little farther in at Florence, or go so to Georgetown/Charleston.

If you are retiring, Look to Greenville/Spartanburg.   Charleston is too busy to live, traffic and all.

Columbia is not so nice, run down and just, run down.

The area just inside the state south of Charlotte is great also.

Horry county is MB, the redneck riviera.  Avoid it...

I live in Sumter county,  not so nice but if you get out in the country a bit it turns into nothing but farmland.  Sumter itself has a high crime rate.

Edit to add.

You can own real firearms when you get here.  No need to neuter your guns or magazines anymore.

You are suggesting that he avoids traffic, but you tell him to look at CHS?  Are you insane?

I lived in MB and Surfside Beach for a couple years.  Locals seemed to hate it and I always see recommendations to avoid MB here on Arfcom, but I liked it. (I liked Surfside better than MB.)

I worked out in Conway.  Seemed pretty relaxed and "country", while still being a reasonable drive from all the touristy stuff if you ever wanted to partake.

Yeah I never understand the MB area hate. Maybe it's just downtown MB? I love NMB/Cherry Grove and go often, also enjoy Murrels Inlet area.  I always avoid Charleston myself.

I usually spent most of my time to the south of MB; Surfside, Murrell's Inlet.  Only time I usually went north, was to my FFL in Little River.

Only went to Charleston once.  Didn't care for it.

Greenville has more traffic collisions than anywhere else in SC.

If you want to live in Horry but not MB, check out Conway.

If you want the beach but not the hassle, look south to Murrells Inlet, Litchfield, or Pawleys Island.

We welcome you. Just keep in mind, we don't care how you did it in New Yawk.

I live in Greenville. Traffic here, in my opinion, not as bad as Columbia or Charleston. You want ocean? Go to Beaufort.

A home on the channel in Cherry Grove is top of the list for retirement....with a place on Edisto a close second.
