| So I have been seeing tons of military aircraft over west Lexington lately, mainly jets and prop planes. Yesterday an apache came over my house, and did circle over the south end of the lake. It was low enough I could see pilot hand movements. Wish I had my camera, but I was in the pool. Anyone else notice this? Never seen that heli that close before. |

Lol
Bandito and I saw it yesterday too. I have been seeing it over the past two weeks; it comes seemingly from the southeast, turns once it hits the harbison area, then circles back over the lake heading toward lexington. Every day it does this same pattern. Three weeks ago, around 11am one weekday, i watched a heli land behind a neighborhood off Greystone; looked for news coverage of an emrgency landing, but nothing. Is WIS auditioning for a new NewsHawk? |

I will digress;
back in 1983 (i think) I went to church with the Calvert family. The dad, Cal, worked for MD as a pilot of some sort (forgive me, I was a starry eyed kid). Anyways, He and another were charged with flying an early AH-64a to DC from FL (I think) to be reviewed by some Congressional members. As the time for the flight grew near, Cal informed my dad that they would be stopping over at GSP to let his two sons see the Apache-he invited my family and I. I'll never forget sitting there in class waiting to be called to the office so I could go see the Apache. My dad picked us up from Duncan Elem and we headed over to GSP. The security was expecting us, and escorted us out to the Pad to the left of the Tower-right near the Employee Parking. There it sat...I nearly peeed my pants Anyways, Cal gave us the quick in and out tour and then they packed back in and lifted off. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my young life. I have some Polaroids somewhere around here... So yes, I've seen them that close topic: I've actually noticed a little less .mil air traffic around here of late....but I did see the T-38 leave outta GSP the other night while eating a 5 guys burger on their porch on Pelham Rd. |
| See them all the time around my house. One circled my neighborhood pretty low for about 15min 2 or 3 days ago. I have noticed more military aircraft in the air over the past few weeks tho. I see a pretty even mix of Chinooks, Blackhawks, and Apaches. The Apache pilots tend to fly the lowest from what I've seen. I'm in Forest Acres |

But I have to wonder...if in a war zone, a) how do you not hear those things coming and B) why are you going to stick around. That Apache yesterday was just badass! |

Haha they are pretty loud... esp the chinooks. There is also i huge difference in the sound of the military helicopters and civilian helicopters... they have a really powerful sound which just adds to the awesomeness. My guess is that they are so used to hearing helicopters over in war zones that they just have to hope that they aren't out for them. I think they have a pretty solid range when it comes to the guns and I'm sure they can use terrain to stay somewhat concealed if its available to them. Not to mention that the presence of one is prob enough to keep heads down to an extent giving our guys on the ground a better opportunity to do whatever it is they are needing get done. |
| I live in the same general area, kinda near Columbia Metro. I have heard the helicopters but too far away from the flight path to see them. I've seen the usual ANG C130 plane doing tight approaches to Cola Metro. I have also seen 1 or 2 V22 Ospreys flying overhead every few days for the last month. I have learned to recognize the V22s distinctive sound in horizontal flight. It sounds like BOTH a jet and a large multi prop plane with a bit of helicopter blade chop all at the same time, but not quite like the C130s turbo prop sound. |

OMG JADE HELM!!! IT'S HAPPENING!!! POP PMAG COVERS!!!!! When it comes to an Apache hovering overhead, the last thing I want to be doing is holding a weapon since I do not care to be vaporized(even though I am quite sure I won't live forever!) d16, you sure he wasn't just checking you out in the pool. DADT is no longer in place. |
