So, I was working in Myrtle Beach this year. Crime and lawlessness were the norm. In fact, it was anarchy.

It will only keep getting worse. Year after year after year. Sodom and Gomorrah weekend.
BTW, my friends and I have several pools going right now; do you have the official crime stats? I lost the homicide count pool by one (i guessed 4), but still have a shot at bike accidents, rapes, overdoses, fights (male), fights (female), fights (dog), car break-ins, armed robberies (individual), and armed robberies (establishments). |

Many business actually lose money during "black bike week" in terms of damage, employee absenteeism (employees are fearful so they stay home), skipped out upon food tabs, and generally thuggery and rudeness from patrons.
But hell be upon you if you decide to close that weekend because that obviously means you're racist.

...Dont forget shoplifting! On the bright side, there is always one weekend when the rest of SC can look forward to sleeping soundly. You know you were there pimpin' in the xtera. HAAA! My rims aint big enough to earn an invitation But i admit i went waaay back in the day before it became a total display of debauchery. Back then, you still had to put in effort to get laid! ...i feel cheated...

And why not? One of the reasons some of us are Constables is to give back to the community by helping local law enforcement. Some of us are retired LEOs and still enjoy the commaderie and being useful. The "wanna-be's" can be that back-up officer and just by being there may stop something from starting. Maybe their motives aren't as pure as yours, but they are out there doing something.

That the agency might not have your back also applies to the local LEO. The agency is going to do what's best for the agancy. While working for an agency, you are a temporary employee.
Your employer is going to do what's best for it, not you. Back to Atlantic Beach Bike Festival; The area I worked was relatively calm, but lots of noise. I can understand how some businesses don't like it, but some businesses do. I would think the refreshments suppliers and the grocers like the spike in income. Rick |

scpapa,
I am with Ponti on this. I have been a Constable for 12 years and I am retiring my commission. I no longer want to volunteer my time away from my job and family for the liability and dangers of the actions of a cop. I don't know where you are getting your info, but every LEO absolutely DOES have more departmental backing than any sheriff or chief LEO will ever extend to a Constable. Believe otherwise, and at some point you will suffer from the wool being pulled over your eyes on this. Retired LEO must be different from what I would expect for a regular ole group III Constable. Good luck when the SHTF for you. SLED appears to be doing every thing they can to phase out the entire reserve officer/constable program. At this point in the program, who in their right mind will commit that much time for free while taking on that much personal and potentially financially ruinous liability just for the sake of "helping" their community. I am glad to have proudly served as a Constable, but I will be happy being retired. BTW, I have never had the desire to work either biker week. |

Getting labeled a racist wouldn't mean squat to me. |

I wonder how it was proven Damon's closed down for the holiday "because" of black bike week ? I'm sure they didn't hang a sign saying: "Sorry, closed for black bike week". How about: "Closed for family vacation", or "Closed for renovations" ? |

Here is my challenge to the community organizers. Go video the craziest stuff that you can find on each weekend. Compare the two and then tell me that they are the same.
On a positive note, I had the best steak I've ever eaten at Angelos on 17 bus and 20th something south. |
