So my dad called me with nothing bad to say about Buffalo, Wyoming. Said he went to a gunshop around there, found a house and a job and now he wants to stay. What can the good folks tell me about the town/ area? He's making me want to move there too. How are the gun/ hunting laws?

I don't live there but have visited fro time to time. Beautiful country, it's located at the foot of the big horn mountains. Small town, that means everyone is in everyone's business. It's on the I 25 corridor, Casper (large wyo city) is a few hours drive south and Sheridan (tourist/rancher town)  is a few miles north.

Guns laws?  What are gun laws?  Ours mainly concentrate on hunting regulations but even those are becoming relaxed. Hunting with suppressors are now allowed. Hunting big game with large capacity mags is allowed. Most hunting is easy enough to do but the good areas are "draw" locations, put in for the tag and you might get it, and you may not. Hunting laws here are more serious than criminal laws.  Seen people get arrested for a felony and walk away with a mideamenor. Kill a big game animal out of season?  Last one I read about the guy got fined 50k, had his truck and guns seized and lost hunting privileges for life. Go to a popular hunting area on opening day and it sounds like a war zone.

Concealed carry can be done without a permit but you must be a resident (living here for 6 months or more) and there are some restrictions where. Permits can be obtained with little problem. Open carry is allowed but more and more business are putting up "no firearms" signs.

SBR, SBS, Suppressors, machine guns, tannerite and etc are all allowed by the state. Some cities, Cheyenne for example, has ordinances against switch blades or concealing knives over a certain length if I remember correctly. I don't about the city of Buffalo.

I love this state, I'm never leaving. Visit the old man, get a feel for it. Try not to travel in winter, roads get tricky with the winds.

Hope this helps.

I'd live in Buffalo if I didn't need a job.  Our cabin is 1hrs drive from Buffalo, so we go there for laundry and groceries in the summer.

Awesome, thanks guys. I see your forums are as hopping as OK's. Are "no gun" signs enforceable by law? In OK they're not. I love it here but I could see myself setting up shop and settle in.

I have never seen one, except in Yellowstone on their buildings.

Per state statute if you enter property with a clearly visible sign barring entry it's trespassing, which covers concealed carry as well.  I don't think you going to see a lot of that in Buffalo, a LOT of gun lovers there.  Tree hugging cities like Lander will, I think I've see some in Casper and Cheyenne.

Buffalo is a nice town.
Your Dad will probably love it there.
We spent a few days there, years ago, and the wife said that "she could live there".

that sucks; I always enjoyed Lander and the surrounding area of the Wind Rivers.

there were a lot of out-of state types buying property there 20 years ago. That's why I quit going up that way; I guess they finally jacked it up.
