What handguns are allowed in Canada my gf and I have talked about moving to Calgary because she got a decent job offer there. I currently own 3 1911's Sig 229, 226, 220, FNP45, and 2 AR15's m4 style. I also own a Benelli M4 with fixed stocked, and a USC converted to a UMP SBR. Is there any of these that are restricted?

Also how is the cost of living? Crime, jobs?

First off, you as a firearms owner need to be registered.  You will need to take a course and pass a test, submit your paperwork and undergo a background check to obtain a PAL license (possession and acquisition).

All handguns with a barrel length of 105mm (4.15 inches) and greater, and not of .25 or .32 cal are good to go.  Anything shorter or of those calibres is prohib .  Your AR's and Benelli are good to go as well, but for handguns and AR's (restricted class) you will need a restricted PAL.  Two classes of license exist; Non Restricted (long guns and shotguns basically), Restricted (handguns and evil black guns basically), Check out the CFC website;

Calgary is booming due to the oil business so COL is high, but Alberta in general has lower taxes than other provinces (oil revenues...) and good quality of life.

And I think the H&K might be prohib, but would have to look into it.

or

Although with the RCMP, you will get moved around as this is a national police force.

Not being a Canadian citizen would be a problem, tho.

As far as i know, as long as you are a legal resident you should be ok.  If in doubt, give the Canadian Firearms Centre a call.

Also keep in mind , magazines are limited to 10 rounds no? That would be for the AR and handguns .

except in the cases where the rifles can use pistol magazines, in wich case, you can legally insert your 10rounder pistol mag in your rifle without the fear of doing 5 years in jail. Also, Garands are not restricted in magazine capacity.

Right - 5 for center fire rifles . Now refresh my memory here : is my Mossberg 590 that holds 8 + 1 legal back home ?

Is it semi-auto?

No , it's the pump action with the ghost ring sights . I can't remember what the shell limit is back home . I thought it was 5 as well , same as rifles.

Pump action shotguns, no limit, semi's 5, unless you are hunting which has it's own rules......easy rules to follow, no?  Now, do we talk about rimfire mag capacities?

so my ar's are only 5 rounds? How am I suppose to go on a rampage? Jk.... Hmmm interesting laws.. I'm a 1911 guy so I don't have to worry about  the capacity...

Your ar-15 can have a 10 round pistol clip... And ya; doesn't leave room for a lot of fun, lol.... Plus here we have a bunch of "INTERESTING" laws, 90% are just stupid!!! They would make anyone fall on the floor laughing... I know I do...

However..due to ar's being restricted..you can have all the "evil" features like short barrels, bayo lugs, collapsable stock, flash hider.
Also..shotguns with factory 12.5" barrels are legal and non restricted.
