Laws concerning US citizens owning property, ie....house, land....in Canada, specifically Vancouver BC.
 1.  Any taxes do one have to deal with?
2   Any requirements to US citizen?
 3.  Are the laws different from province to province?
 4.  Gun law to US citizen living in Canada?  I assume Semi. only (rifles and/or handguns), ammo and register with local police department?

 Thanks

Good question Mojo..it is possible to own property here..lots of Americans own cottages around here. I don't think there are any special laws or rules. Buy your property..pay the property taxes on it and you're good to go. Are you talking a summer residence?

1.  Any taxes do one have to deal with?

You will have to pay property tax on your house, land or whatever you buy.

2   Any requirements to US citizen?

In regards to?

3.  Are the laws different from province to province?

Yes..depending on what laws you are talking about. The criminal code of Canada is the same from coast to coast. However when it comes to motor vehicle acts, highway acts, etc then the province has control of that. If BC wants the speed limit to be 100 mph..they can set it at 100mph.
Firearms laws are the same across the country however each Chief firearms officer might have different regulations in regards to permits to transport restricted firearms, etc.

 4.  Gun law to US citizen living in Canada?  I assume Semi. only (rifles and/or handguns), ammo and register with local police department?

 Thanks

I have a link tacked at the top of the forum that takes you to the Canadian Firearms Center FAQ page in regards to US citizens owning guns up here.
You will need to take the test and obtain your Possession And Acquisition licence (PAL) to own guns up here and to buy ammo.
We are currently in a limbo in regards to registering long guns like rifles and shotguns. the current govt said it was going to abolish the long gun registry but as of yet they haven't.
Here are links to our 2 biggest firearms advocacy groups. There is good info on them.

If you have any specific questions shoot me an e-mail.
And no..you won't be able to bring 2 of your guns up here..the ones that probably still have my fingerprints on them from Gunstock!

We have some relatives in Van. BC, so my wife is kinda of thinking about it.  Nothing concrete...Depending on several factors.

1.  Any taxes do one have to deal with?

You will have to pay property tax on your house, land or whatever you buy.
One time tax or yearly tax?
$100,000.00 house would pay how much tax?  Approximately, of course.

I've owned land in Ontario before and hopefully will be buying some more in a year or so once I get some land in Arizona sold and other bills paid off.  I'm looking to buy bare land along a lake or river and bordering Crown land.  Prices are still cheaper than the U.S. but the conversion rate is not as good as when it was 40% around 10 years ago.  For bare land in BC I have been watching www.niho.com or niholand.com for about 14 years.  Good luck!
