I want to bring my dad to shoot, pick him up in BR and head to Sherburn, is it a decent place to shoot? Do you bring your own target stands? Any good places to eat around there?
Thanks 77 |
| Sherbourne has separate rifle and pistol ranges with target stands. lt is a decent place to shoot but can get crowded on the weekends. I suggest grabbing some food in Krotz Springs and taking it to the range and picnic. You will need some kind of LDWF license. Either a fishing, hunting, or usage license in case you are checked. Not sure if they still have a range officer on the weekend. |

I haven't been to Sherbern in a while, but I liked it because you could shoot rifle, pistol, and shotgun. I've heard that they installed some retarded things on the rifle range that prevent you from being able to shoot while standing, i.e. can only shoot from their benches.
There's usually wooden target stands, and all you need are targets and a staple gun. Kartchner's Grocery is right over the bridge in Krotz Springs (assuming you're going West on 190), and they have some great boudin balls and other stuff. I've only stopped for a snack and some drinks, but I'm sure they have enough stuff for a meal. Have fun shooting with your dad. |

I used to like going to Sherburne, especially during the week when it wasn't too crowded. But the weekends are just ridiculous. Too many newbs and rednecks that wouldn't understand basic firearms safety if it slapped them in the face. I got muzzle swept one too many times. Joined Fusilier Complex, which is about the same distance from BR. Never have to go to Sherburne again. The idea of people not putting their rifles on the racks when going down range is just pure stupidity. And i've seen many LOADED firearms still sitting on the bench or rest while folks are down range. Safety is NOT enforced whatsoever.
Furthermore, they recently built a come-down wall that makes certain shooting positions impossible. Food wise, Kartchners across the river in Krotz Springs is an awesome boudin, cracklin, and specialty meat market worth checking out |

More will be discussed at the annual meeting on June 19. |
