So I've been carrying in this rest stop for years, both concealed and not. This week, I saw a crudely made sign - looked like someone's home printer - hanging on the door to the bathroom hallway, complete with a MDOT logo at the bottom, saying that carry of any weapon was prohibited there.

What gives?

All MS rest areas are posted now. It was a knee jerk by the MDOT in response to "concerns" over HB2 and open carry. It's bullshit since they are funded by taxpayers and are in essence posting public property, but it is happening all over the state.

Yes. I could understand that the NASA property is off limits, being Federal, but I don't know enough about the laws in Mississippi to know if the MDOT can even post such a sign.

MDOT was supposed to have them taken down. It appears that the tourism dept put them up. I guess they control the actual buildings at rest stops.
