Guys,
The wife and I were planning on a day trip down to the coast today. Several yrs ago ( before Katrina ), we used to go down and buy shrimp directly off the boats. I think somewhere west of Gulfport - maybe Pass Christian ? Anyway, I was wondering if that is still possible, wanted to bring a cooler, maybe get 100 lbs or so. Anybody know what the going rate for med-lrg fresh shrimp is going for? Where will I find the best deals????? Thanks in advance...... |
| There is usually someone selling them in the Biloxi small craft harbor by the Hard Rock casino. If you don't feel like looking for a boat you can go to Quality Seafood on the corner of Division and Caillavet. They get fresh shrimp in everyday. I couldn't tell you the price but they could. |

Yep the shrimp boats are right down at the small craft harbor, Davis Ave and Hwy 90, south side of 90. Jerry Forte at Pass Purchasing has them all day long. We got some jumbos last week (8-10 count) and they were $5.00 per pound. I would guess the smaller ones would be cheaper. ETA;I had to go to the post office this morning and wasn't thinking right, the Harbor is at Hwy 90 and Market St. The Post office is on Davis.

Thanks for the responses, guys. We made it down around noon, really enjoyed riding down Hwy 90, as always. Small Craft harbor in Biloxi- everyone was sold out or had left their boats. Got down to Pass Christian, and yes Forte had some. He is the same guy we got it from yrs ago. We were looking for about 100 lbs of medium to medium-large mix for cooking. Had to settle for 46 lbs of all mediums Again, thanks for the info. We may have to go down again and hit some of the restaurants at the casino's for some seafood buffet. Don't care about gambling, but like to stuff myself sick on shrimp and crab.

Wife went down about an hour before you got there. Was just gonna get about 5 lbs of shrimp, but somebody had several flounder so she got two, plus some crabs, and four lbs of shrimp. The crabs are cooked and cleaned, several of the shrimp cooked, flounder filleted and the stuffed flounder are in the oven. You cut the tails off !!! Fried or broiled tails are great crispy. I even like shrimp tails fried. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/zlichus/DSC00213.jpg Best time to get down there is between 10 and 12 as the crabbers are getting in, the fishermen are getting in and the shrimpers have already gotten in. Glad to be of help. Quoted:
