I'm confused regarding NH's carry laws - seems there are a whole set of regulations regarding carry while in or on a vehicle that seems to conflict with the open carry laws (or lack thereof). I know you're not allowed to carry a loaded weapon on an ATV during hunting season, for example, since hunting off of an ATV is illegal. So, what about normal everyday open carry? I ask because I have a pistol openly mounted on the front rack of my ATV - wondering if there are any laws against it. I do not have have an LTC. Any insight would be appreciated:

http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/XII/159/159-4.htm It looks like the law says you cannot have a loaded handgun in ANY vehicle without a pistol/revolver license. You *might* be okay if you ATV only on your property, but I'm not sure and wouldn't risk it myself. Just spend the $10 and get the LTC. |
| Right, but the statute states 'IN' a vehicle, which makes sense, because you can't see in a vehicle. However, with the pistol openly mounted on the vehicle...its a grey area. I wrote the State Police with the question. I'll get a LTC anyway, but who knows when I'll actually be able to take care of it. I've been trying to buy stamps for a week... |

It's about as easy as buying stamps, and you'll probably have it in less than a week. |
