Planning on driving to Boston to see the fireworks from Boston Common. Any tips that I should know about? I'm staying downtown and walking to Boston Common.

Only been to them once. A lot of people, everywhere; good show though.  I know watch them on TV after my town's fireworks.

Pepper spray is legal if you are over 18.

I got stuck one year after a Sox game, on the T platform above the Shell.  The show was amazing.  Have fun.

Always seems like a good show but I can't bring myself to deal with the crowds and traffic. A friend has a house right next to the beach so we have a big. Lookout every year. Tons of firework shows all around us on Plymouth harbor and a lot of our own games.

Bring lots of water and be prepared for a cluster fuck of people.

500K people packed into a small area. Traffic and parking are impossible, taking the T is impossible as everyone tries to leave at once when it is over.

Last time there we had a very poor view of the Hatch Shell (concert) and I ended up in a face-off with one a-hole who intentionally stood up to block everyone's view and refused to sit down. He gave me the "what are you going to do about it" until I pulled out my cell phone and told him I'll call MSP to get the Trooper to come over from the other side of the Shell. He sat down finally. That day we got there 5 hours prior to the concert, sat in the broiling Sun and waited. Lines for the Porta-Potties are ridiculously long, when the concert is over everyone rushes to the river bank to see the fireworks (trees are too tall to see them from the oval area), so a good view of the fireworks is a bad view of the Hatch Shell and vice versa.

I don't know how tight security is these days as my last time was >10 years ago now.

My view in front of the large screen LED TV is much superior, no parking issues (reserved spaces in my garage ), comfort of real bathrooms, and no need to deal with a-holes who are there only to spoil it for others.

ETA: If you want to see the fireworks and deal with less hassles, consider being on the Cambridge side of the Charles River. Many years we did this with a Cousin (who lived in that area) and they had setup huge speakers for the concert on that side. So we could hear the concert, couldn't see the Hatch Shell but had a clear view of the fireworks and a much easier "escape route" afterwards.

I'd consider arriving about 20 minutes before the end of the concert.  Depending upon where you're staying either walk or take a cab to the corner of Mass & Comm Ave and walk the last few blocks onto the Mass Ave bridge.  Fantastic view for the fireworks.  IIRC the bridge is closed for the performance, so you have the whole roadway to find a spot to stand.

If you CCW, plan on deep concealment as you will have many people bumping into you.
