GF and I are going to be visiting Burlington for 4-5 days at the
end of next week.

What are the must-see  must-do  places ?

We're both pretty active and will probably bring bikes, but not kayaks.
Any suggestions for great places to hike or climb, or bike ?

I saw a previous thread on food and we'll try Guild, Single Pebble and VT
Pub & Brewery.

Troll some Bernie rallies  ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated !

The island line rail trail is a great bike ride on the causeway in lake Champlain, fantastic views.
Quite a few different breweries to tour if you're interested in beers also. Magic hat, zero gravity, switchback, and citizen cider are all in the Burlington area.

you can try the Burlington bike path, link attached.  Hang out on Church St, but watch out for beggers, they get abusive sometimes. There should be enough police presence to deter them.   Ben n Jerrys Ice Cream in  Waterbury for the tour...even tho they are socialists its good ice cream

Thank you !

It's too early, that was supposed to be a quote.  Thanks
guys, that's just the sort of stuff we're looking for.

Any cool hiking trails with great views ?

IMHO, the closest to Burlington that fits that description would be Mt. Philo State Park. You can see the Adirondacks easily as well.

Hinesburg Town Forest trails have some spots with good views, but I am not sure of which routes offhand. Much of the trails have overhead canopy up there.

Bring a gun.  Constitutional carry has been in effect since the 1700's, might as well take advantage

I came into town late last night and back out early tomorrow.  Was on my way up to one of my sites for work and saw a shop in Highgate.  Stopped in  and once I saw $130 for an Anderson stripped lower I had to get out.

We loved the Burlington area !

We biked from Shelburne Park to just before the Causeway, and all over
town.  Nice path with great views of the Lake Champlain in many spots.

Spent a part of a day driving around to Ben & Jerry's and  Shelburne Farm.
If we had planned better, we should have hit Fiddleheads and Folino's on this
run, but we had reservations for Single Pebble ( which was fantastic !)
Restaurants were mobbed !  I don't know if they're always that busy, or if it
was because of parent's weekend at Champlain College ??

First couple of nights, we didn't plan ahead, so we missed some places we wanted to
check out.

American Flatbread was over a hour wait, so we went to Verita  instead.
It was still a very good wood-fired pizza, great salad and good beer and wine menu.
The place was still packed, and we ended up at the pizza bar.  A 5-year old Chinese
kid that was stuck at a table with 4 cougars came over and was mesmerized by the guys
making the pies.  After about 20 minutes, they gave him a chunk of dough of his own to
play with on a floured plate.

Farmhouse was overbooked as well - we ended up on the water at (Splash ??)

Most of Saturday morning was spent wandering around the farmers market, UVM, and
back to the market.  Man, the food was fantastic !  We ended up having breakfast and
lunch there ... apples, berries, cider doughnuts, breakfast and chicken burritos, scallion
pancakes, giant pretzels, grass-fed burgers .. we had a little of everything !

Great town, friendly people, a ton of stuff to do.  Didn't see or hear any politics.  In fact, the
only lawn signs I saw were a couple for a local race.  (Church street had a guy manning a
Bernie/Dem table.)   We're seriously considering moving there in a few years.

ETA: We hit Vt Pub and Brewery too, and a little Mexican place on College St - Bueno Sano.
Both delicious.  I wasn't disappointed in any food or beer I tried !!  Their Oktoberfest
was a little light, but very much like Paulaner.  The stout was excellent, and they had
        a beer-mead that was really tasty !

I come into Burlington every once in a while. Farm House is good, we have one in Nashville but different menu. The Guild is highly recommended. My wife wants to come with me on a trip and stay at the Von Trapps??
