How's the fishing in Southern Maine? I've been out on a buddy's boat in the Piscataqua twice and we've caught only ONE striper. But a ton of mackerel and pollock the second time. We were fishing chunk bait / clams and poppers the first time and live mackerel and poppers the second time.

I have several friends that want to go surfcasting, probably off of Wells or Ogunquit beaches some night.

What's anybody having for luck? What are they biting on? And when do the blues start running???

I haven't been out at all this year but the water temp is in the mid 60s so I would think the blues will be in around the first/second week of August. My BIL goes almost every day out of York Harbor. I'll see if he has any good info.

We caught a few small ones a couple of weeks ago.  I have not really been back out since.

There is a guy on day shift who goes a lot and I will try to ask him tomorrow how things are.

BIL says no blues yet. He's catching stripers on live mackerel hooked thru the spine. He's been out around the Harbor and beaches in York and says it's been average.

Thanks, guys.

Dumb question - we jig for live mackerel with diamond head jigs from the boat, but how does one catch them from the shore?
