I saw on the news Nobama & your Gov. chumming it up on the boradwalks & how fast they got things back to normal. That`s "BS". My daughter who lives in Beach Havin West (Manihawkin) is still without her house & is going through  "SH**" loads of red tape to get another one built. Also. all the $$$ that was donated for  the people that  lost everything from  Sandy, she never got any.

BHW is still fucked and will be for some time and so will be many other waterfront communities .  I do a lot of work in there (flooring & finish carpentry) and when you take it block by block at the most half are livable.  We were in there as soon as they let contractors in and it looked third world.  Big props to the township for there quick clean up,  I'm still amazed at their efficiency.  Comparatively speaking.

Went scouting the whole Lavalette area two weeks ago,  looks like BHW did three months ago  minus that nasty ass bay mud.

I actually drove into Ortley Beach to check how bad it was last weekend. I used to work as a bouncer at Surf Club... damn it looks like a war zone. Surf Club was still in a pile or debris along with other houses. Some houses are off the foundation in the middle of the road (5th, 6th, 7th ave) at the intersection of Ocean BLVD. Most of the roads are still covered with a nice amount of sand in some areas. Looks like bulldozers are going from block to block demolishing houses.

The boardwalk along Ocean Blvd is still being built. I did see some people in houses though that were finished on those streets. Seaside on the other hand looked like it had a decent amount of people in the hotels and boardwalk.

Funny you should say that... Love Ladies and Harvey Ceders on LBI is pristine. Sickening seeing all those mansions on the water that are fresh built, meanwhile people who live down there trying to make a living get a fema trailer if they are lucky. Mystic Islands by me is sickening in some areas where you look in the window from the street and see bare walls and people sleeping on cots or mattresses on plywood floors.

Anyone familiar with the Mystic Island area? If so on Radio Rd by the abandoned marina, are those indeed FEMA trailers lined up in the lot next to the little church?

The north end of LBI  (the money end) is at a higher elevation than the central and south end.  They also put a hell of a lot of their tax money into replenishing their beaches a few years back.  Structural damage on the north end was/is minimal to sat the least.  I bluffed my may on to the island way before they started letting people on in numbers.  From Ship Bottom to Holgate was horrific,  I have never seen ruin on such a scale.  The clean up effort on LBI is impressive but like other areas hit hard, it will take years to get everything right.

Mystic Island got it's ass kicked much the same way BHW did.  We were in there right after the storm doing tare outs.  My old house had over five feet of water run through it.  Glad I moved out when I did because I would have stayed and lost everything.  Drove passed it again last week,  it was being prepped for demolition.  The future of Mystic is going to be interesting considering bank of america owns half the hood.   Ghost town or boom town place your bets.

Good point about Mystic Island, should be interesting to see what happens next.

I know the houses on Iowa on Osborne Island look like a nightmare after the storm, can't bring myself to drive up that road after seeing it 3 days after the storm (end of Ohio Dr isn't that bad they rebuilt it fast, its the street I'm on).

After Sandy I remember a few of my friends staying down to help out and clean their houses up. Numerous houses had "Looters will be shot" spray painted on the front.

Great Bay marina is coming along nicely tho. My boat was there and ended up in a pile and is now in Jersey Cape getting repaired.

Another problem is occurring though. All of the pine trees are dieing from the salt water i guess, bad fire hazard. Wonder if anything will happen with it. They are all blowing down on the street I'm on.

I've have a lagoon front house in Mystic. It saw 4 ft of water.
No mortgage but had flood ins. Being "Considerably Damaged" I am
required to lift the existing or build a new home the the new ABFE (Flood guidelines).
My Ins payout fell way short of covering the costs for either scenerio.
I could have sold the place, after the storm, for 50-80k and lost a ton of money.
Decided to dig deep and demo the old and build a lifted modular. Really no choice
from a financial standpoint. I get no grants, no low interest loans, nothing because
it's not my primary residence.

When FEMA is the fastest acting and most expedient member of the cavalry, you know you're in trouble. In spite of the news media's fawning, the local government response (both state, muni, and city) response has been abysmal. While our Governor is out there playing games on the boardwalk, people who are now homeless are grasping at straws trying to decipher the Rube Goldberg machine that is government.  I need a flow chart just to understand who's ass should be chewed out.
