i notice a few decent deals on equipment exchange and wondering if folks can enlighten me - my google search is giving conflicting info. Questions include the fact that buyer DOES have a current and valid state FID.
1. Does a P2P transaction require an issued Purchase Permit or is it a separate form not requiring that Permit? 2. Does the 30 day rule still apply since I bought a handgun recently, within 30 days? disclosure: my buddy, from NJ, just today purchased an SR22 but i showed him a post on EE and he may be interested. not for me - cant afford it since i bought an M&P 2 weeks ago. Thanks guys and gals! EDIT: sorry if I'm confused. Does P2P mean purchase to permit or person to person? sorry if the question is obtuse but i just want to be clear and my searches are giving some different results. Thanks again. |

Don't feel bad, it takes a while to figure out all the stupid laws. P2P is your permit to purchase a pistol. A NJ resident cannot legally purchase a pistol anywhere or from anybody without one. You will need one even for a face-to-face (FF) transaction. Yes, the 30-day rule applies. And they do check these things. When your local authority and when the NJSP receive their copies of the P2P, they will check the period since your last purchase. If you like a deal you see on the EE, just ask the seller if he will hold it for you. If you are buying FF on the EE, most NJ folks will hold a pistol while you abide by the rules; they will usually ask for payment up front in full, however. If you are buying from out of state, it has to go through a FFL, and most FFLs will hold onto a pistol while you dance the dance. Hope this helps. |
