So i decide to replace my A1 upper with a flat top. the barell nut was loctited from the factory so unfortunately that got stripped so bad i had to replace it. Well then i ran into the problem that the nut can only come off from the front of the barrel and the only way to do that was to hack off the front sight tower along with the handguard cap and replace with a 2 piece gas block front sight ( i preferred that anyway). only thing left that i'm waiting for is the new handgurad cap to arrive. I just now realized that i'm not sure if it will fit over the welded flash hider. Will it? if it doesnt i think i'm screwed. Any suggestions would be great right about now. All i want is for this freakin gun to go back together

The cap will not fit over the muzzle device.
Since you already removed the front sight forging, you might be able to install a free float rail. Depending on the rail, muzzle attachment and barrel nut needed.

If you bring it out here, I will unf@#k it for you.

Nah i dont have a free float rail. I have the RAS rail system. I'm thinking if i dremel the center of the cap to make it fit over the muzzle, wouldnt it butt up against the front sight and be held in place by the quad rail? Think that would work?

The RAS from Knights?
I don't think that will work. The handguard cap needs to be behind the front sight base (or whatever is left of it) and needs to be a specific diameter to be held in place.

It sounds to me like you need to unmake the permanent flash hider, do your repairs/mods and then remake a new permanent comp.
None of that is a big deal to do but it is going to cost you a few drachmas to iron out your DIY experience.

I figured that maybe if i notched the cap to get it over the flash hider and then when its in place bend it back. It backs up against the front sight post and the other end is getting pushed by the quad rail and the gas line is going to prevent it from spinning. I figured that might get it done but i'm not sure. Yeah I dont think my old drachmas are going to do much at the shop, now if they were euros we'd be in business
