I took the UT carry permit class at RTSP in Randolph this afternoon. $200 in total for one-stop shopping including fingerprinting, notarizing, passport photo, required classroom instruction, and mailing. Just bring your NJ driver license.
The classroom seats around ~40 people and it was completely full. There was quite a bit of downtime as the photography and fingerprinting were being done, but the whole process including classroom was done in under 3 hours total. UT requires no proof of firearm training or competency unlike FL. The instructor stated that turnaround is in the 50-60 day timeframe typically, somewhat faster than FL from what I recall. Permit is good for 5 years and costs $15 to renew. FL was in the $110 range to renew if I recall correctly. |

Kids, new job, and grad school conspired to keep my schedule occupied. The kids are growing and requiring less maintenance...grad school is done...and the job is hectic but manageable. Thanks for noticing! No problem. I always enjoyed you thoughtful, insightful and intelligent posts here and on NJCSD. v |

Is the purpose in getting to carry in NJ if the federal reciprocity law passed? Not really...as I understand the House bill it will only apply to persons having a permit in their state of residence, while traveling outside that state. I could be wrong, though. I emailed my Rep (Frelinghuysen) asking his position on the bill, have not heard back yet.
I travel to PA quite a bit, and having a permit valid there is useful. |

When is the next class? Are there any classes during the week? The class is taught by GunForHire.com and they list their full course schedule here: http://gunforhire.com/gun-classes-ccw.html#.TycDfa4TVTY |
| Also check out GAPP as he does UT/FL courses at a couple of locations in NJ for $140/150 (prints, photos, and notary included). |

So you don't need to be a resident of Florida to get a carry that will be honored by many other states? do you need to visit Florida to complete it? Im assuming the second point would be if NJ started honoring then we would be able to carry in NJ. That is correct...PA honors Fla and Utah non resident permits. No, you do not have to go to Fla or Utah to complete anything...remember it's a non-resident permit. |

He just made it sound as if Pa was issuing to NJ residents....which was stopped a while ago by then NJ AG Eric Holder. ![]() No... Holder was never NJ's AG. And the NJ AG would have no authority to tell PA whether or not to issue PA LTCF's (License to Carry Firearms) to NJ residents. What prevents PA sheriffs from doing so is PA's own laws... which says that if a resident's home state issues carry permits, then one must obtain a carry permit from their home state before receiving a PA non-resident LTCF. |

He just made it sound as if Pa was issuing to NJ residents... In fact, I did no such thing. Title of the thread begins with "Utah Carry Permit" and I replied to another poster "I travel to PA quite a bit, and having a permit valid there is useful." Quoted:
