I'm on many forums including this one but I never got a good answer. My question is I want uppers. But they have a flash hider so I was wondering can I buy the upper and buy my muzzle brake/compensator and pin myself?? note I don't have my lowers yet purposely. I bought my stocks already and pinned them .

from what i heard you can own it as long as its not installed on a lower.... its just an unregulated part until installed

Technically, if you possess both an AR-15 lower, and an upper with a threaded barrel or a bayonet lug, you are in possession of an assault firearm, as per 2C:39-1w(5), which says:

A part or combination of parts designed or intended to convert a firearm into an assault firearm, or any combination of parts from which an assault firearm may be readily assembled if those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same person.

I know...  the OP is GTG.  I was commenting on the "it's legal if you don't put the two together" piece...

+1 on this. Don't get caught with both.

OK to receive the upper in the mail. OK to do your own smithing to make it compliant.

But make no mistake, Anyone found in possession of a non-compliant upper and a lower will be making the headlines in their local newspaper.

OP: Please be timely in making your alterations BEFORE your lower receiver arrives.

OP,
The satellite in stationary orbit over your home that can see down through the roof into your basement and observe any nefarious activities is in the shop for repair, so you might just be able to squeak by doing the mods before the complete rifle sees the light of day.

It's not the satellites that I am worried about. It's the sparrow-size RAVs.

I know they are watching, they are always watching... except when they are not.
