Are optics permitted for Saturday's NRA High Power Rifle 300 yd?

Or is it irons only?

I do not think the match director (John Donald) would stop you from shooting, your scores simply would not count in the aggregate for awards.  If you are serious about shooting there I would just show up and with your gear.  CJ also has LOANER gear including NRA Highpower legal service rifles (AR 15)

What he said. It's a relaxed/informal event.

I would not say it is informal.  In fact they run a pretty much "by the book" NRA Highpower rifle program.  It is just very newbie friendly.  Keep in mind that this Sunday is the NJ State Reduced Course Championship match.  It is a very well attended and serious match so this particular event you will not see lots of one on one help/guidance as there is quite a bit going on.  If you know the basics and are willing to go with the flow, there is no reason not to shoot.

Just rolled in from the 300 Yard NJ State Championship.....it was a windless day but at the peak of the day, it was just plain humid. Guys were saying 80 shooters which is an excellent turnout. Dual ranges were used to speed up the match and indeed it did. After the match there was hambugers and hotdogs and soda was available all day all for free. Medals were awarded to the winners and then a raffle. Everything left over on the tables were given away to anyone who walked up and got whatever they wished. Match was well run. The 2011 NJ State 300 Yard Champion is Mike Schallow who also won the NJ Full distance championship a few week earlier. He is now a double state title winner...a very hard feat. Mike cleaned the 600 which gave him the NJ title with a 780 followed by John Donald with a fine 778 Lenny Kurtech from out of state had a fine score right behind the other shooters. OVERALL champion was John Sylvestor with a 787 but because he is out of state there was a separate medal which was very nice. Prizes were also given to the winners in addition to the medals. Randy Statler from NJ had a 777 and won the Master Class. Thats all I remember of the winners until the scoressheet is sent. Soooo the big news is John Sylvestor taking overall title and Mike Schallow taking the state championship...he was using a wood stock bolt rifle pre 64 model 70 for this match in a caliber along the lines of Creedmmor caliber but not exactly that caliber. Mike shot a different rifle in his Millville win but I forgot the rifle. There was a couple Hornady Progressive presses raffled off to lucky shooters. So it was super fun match for all. I will post a couple pics when I get a chance, of the over all and state champions.
