look at the sporting rifles that k-var.com or hendersondefense have. they have NJ legal rifles Fixed it for you. Thanks. Awesome. They have a NJ compliant. The sand-colored poly threw me for a moment, thought it was wood furniture. Replacing the furnature could be a nice winter project. Do you know how do they get around the law (in case I am asked by my FFL or some cop)? |

Do you know how do they get around the law (in case I am asked by my FFL or some cop)? They dont need to "Get Around" the law. it is a legal firearm to own and shoot here. because it falls within the "Evil Features" restrictions. Fixed Stock, no Flash Hider, no Bayo Lug. |

As far as I know, the only AKs banned by name (like the M1 Carbine is) are the Polytech models because they actually say "AK-47S" or something like that on the receiver. Even if they were in post ban configuration, they would not be legal, much like an M1 Carbine. I have no idea if I'm right about this. |

Thanks, guys. This is great info.
Short strokes: AK is OK in NJ. AK compliance is very similar to what I already know and hate about AR compliance. I am just getting this for shits and grins on the range. Something with which to have fun exploding cans of Diet Coke. I want it to look really cool, like something out of 1980's Vietnam War movie, so it is really intimidating to the zombies.
And, I want good quality without spending a fortune. I already got two money-pit rifles (my ST-15 and my Mossberg 590A1) and don’t need a third. I am going to start shopping. I am sure I will have more questions as I learn more about manufacturers and features. Thanks again. |

OP,
Look no further than an SGL20 or 21. Its an Arsenal imported/converted rifle, made by Legion in the Russian Izmash factory. (Legion is their custom shop) You won't find a better example of a russian AK. It's patterned after an AK-74, otherwise known as the AK-103 if bought in 7.62mm. 650.00 to 800.00 is what your going to pay. And its worth every penny. If your in S. Jersey, come shoot mine sometime. |

Post ban configuration AK's have been legal since appx. 2003 in NJ. My first was an SAR 1 Had to have been earlier than that. I'm pretty sure the Merril case was back sometime around the mid 1990's in which the Monmouth county superior court ruled that the MAK-90 he was charged with possessing wasn't prohibited. ETA: anyone know of any other court cases involving possession of AK rifles? The Merril case is the only one I know of but I'd imagine there had to have been more. |

This will do quite nicely (with a shorter mag and minus the flash hider and bayo, obviously). Just wish it came with wood furnature. http://www.izhmash.ru/pix/products/weapons/ak103_1.png Two more questions: Do you have a recommendation on a retailer for NJ compliant? Is yours in wood or poly? How much does wood furnature cost and where should I look? Thanks +1 to an SGL-20, you definitely can't go wrong with one. I own several AK's and my SGL-20 is easily my favorite. Fit and finish is top notch and it's always cool to have original Russian arsenal markings stamped on an AK. I had mine transferred by Vinny at Hunting World in Millstone. He doesn't do ban compliance modifications though, mine was already modified before it got here.

One of these next weeks i will be picking up my new 74 by Waffen Werks. Its a Bulgarian kit build on an NDS. Decided to go a different route other than Arsenal based on what i have read on WW. I did the same thing with my Polish UF (yes it doesnt fold) by Red Jacket, despite thier tv show, this is one of the nicest built AK's ive ever handled. I have high hopes for WW too. I shall post a review when i get it.
My krink is still my fav though |

Reasonable rates, outstanding work. And thank you for the kind words |

Two more questions:
Do you have a recommendation on a retailer for NJ compliant? Is yours in wood or poly? How much does wood furnature cost and where should I look? Thanks K-VAR won't sell to NJ FFL's unless the gun leaves their shop already compliant. That in itself makes it a PITA. Keep an eye out on the EE, you may luck out. Mine's black poly in the warsaw length. I went with warsaw for authenticity. Nato stocks are better for people with normal length arms for sure though. Wood can be found on surplus sites, but for truly sweet ass wood, go with Ironwood Designs. Only AK wood out there that gives me wood. |
| dontalo im in the market my self, end of august as soon as i get back from vacation. I want just a knock around AK with the wood furinature. I m going to get a certified wasr from henderson ( there cheap like an AK should be). Im not into the poly ones that are trying to be AR s. |

If you want to buy a gun that isnt NJ legal and need to transfer it to a dealer that is an expert gunsmith and make it compliant for you before you take it home, contact Sean aka Hemcon9 on this forum. He does all mine. Pins my folders, shaves my bayonet lugs and refinishes them and pins my compensators. He is located in Chalfont, PA. Its not that far into the state. About an hour drive from Middlesex County. It is well worth the trip and his prices are pretty good.
He can pretty much do anything you ask him to make your rifle NJ compliant. Hes going to be doing another for me in a week or so |
WHAT THE F##K?!?!
I just got back from Cheyene Mountain. I went there to check out their AK's. Not to buy, but just to get a feel. Guess what... They ain't got none no more. I ask what happened. They said that the Atty Gen has banned new AK sales in NJ!
Anyone hear of this? |

Anyone hear of this? Rule number 1 when buying firearms in NJ: gun shops and law enforcement are the last places you should get advice on the laws |
| The NJSP actually are closely watching the sales of AK's for criminal/gang purposes. Alot of shops temporarily took them down. Transfers arent really a problem. Cheyenne probably told you they banned them so you dont ask questions anymore. Btw ive heard this from several FFL's/sources including Vinny in freehold and a few in PA. Thats all i really know |

Anyone hear of this? Thats cheyenne Mtn speak for "We have none in stock, and we'd rather not tell you where they can be found." OP, I wasn't kidding when I suggested having Hemcon9 buy it from K-Var, than going to pick it up. Trust me on this, I want to see you get an honest deal. |

I have an Arsenal SAM-7G. Milled receiver. It's an awesome rifle. It wasnt too much $$$ when my Wife bought it for me for Christmas. I'm thinking $680. But that was about 10 years ago. I understand theyre a bit more now. ![]() Just looked it up. For $2,000+ it had better be an AWESOME rifle. |

Thanks All for your advice.
Sorry about the rant on Cheyene. Not sure how that place stays in business with stupid counter folks that don't know anything. I should have suspected it was crap. I remember when I went there to grope a couple of ARs before ordering mine online. I asked them if they had anything in a midlenght. The guy said "No, just 16-inch barrels." I was like,
All this advise has be very helpful. I learned a lot in just a couple days. I will post a picture of what I end up buying. |

Anyone hear of this? The guy at sayreville sportsman told me that my WASR and anything else that can accept a double stack AK mag is illegal in NJ because of its ease of FA conversion... dont trust everything you hear at gun shops. You can still get semi automatic 7.62x39 AK looking rifles here.. as long as they are ban compliant and dont say AK-47 on the receiver. |

LoeyBoy, NICE! Rephrasing this just to make sure I got this straight: You got a SGL21-62 and Paul made it compliant. You did NOT get the factory compliant SGL24-62. I priced both and it appears cheaper to have a model 21 made complaint than to buy a factory compliant model 24. The furnature is going to the highest bidder on EE, so I really don't care about color (plum, black, ODG, or otherwise). Where did you get your wood furnature set? Is it laminate or solid? All the sets I can find are laminates, except for one solid set which was outrageously expensive. Thanks |

Here is my SGL 21 (plum) and I love it. However, I do like the old school wood look vs. the tactical AR style Ak's. Mine was around $750 from Arms-N-Ammo, plus it already came NJ compliant. I also have a limited lifetime warranty which was a huge selling point. If interested, call Paul and tell him you want the same AK that RC has. He had it in 3 days! http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q9/loeyboy/akphoto.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q9/loeyboy/2akphoto.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q9/loeyboy/1akphoto.jpg Sweet AK! The SGL really has no equal at its price point. They wil only become more expensive. I never thought an AK could make it to 300 yards...

You are better off getting the 21 because if you try and sell it, people from other states will know what it is. Mine already came NJ compliant. Paul did say, if it did not, he would make it compliant at no charge. The problem with any gun shop is, they never really know what they're getting from their distributors on AKs. Some come compliant and have the cleaning kit and sling, but it's a gamble and not the dealers fault. You'll see a disclosure on many website stating the AKs could vary.... Here is how it works. You can order it from Paul and he requires 50% or you can order it directly from his distributor online and only provide 20%. Pay the rest when you pick up the gun. Here the link to order it from Davidson (lifetime warranty) and they will ship it to Arms-N-Ammo in 3 days. Top one is a SGL 21 61 http://www.davidsonsinc.com/consumers/subsites/featured_items.asp?ID=890&table=dealer_prices The wood is just some cheap stuff I picked-up in CT. I have some other wood I'm looking at on the EE. Questions call Paul @ 609.412.3955 |

Don't you HATE how fast a $750 rifle becomes a $844 rifle in NJ.
SGL21-61 ARI SAIGA SGL21-61 7.62X39 5RD: $759.00
Long Gun Fee: $15.00 Shipping (FDX XPR SAVER ): $15.95 Tax Amount: $54.18 Total: $844.13 Unless the dealer you ordered it from is located in NJ, they shouldn't be charging you sales tax. ETA: never mind, I saw in the other thread that you used the Davidsons/Galley of Guns Gun Genie thing to order it. |

It's coming! It's comming!! Woo Hoo!
Woke up this morning and found a shipment confirmation in my inbox. Should be at A&A on Thursday. Next step is to call Paul to see how much time he needs to spay and neuter it before I can take it home. Hopefully, I can have it in time for the weekend. |

This friday i will be posting a review on my new Waffen Werks Bulgarian 74. I chose it over Arsenal because of their ratings and quality reviews. Check it out if you are looking to spend slightly less than an Arsenal. i'm very interested in knowing you think of the waffen werks build... still tossing around the idea of doing a 74 kit but, at that price it's almost not worth it. where are you getting it? |
|
Freshly cleaned and lubed brand new SGL21 sitting in the box on my workbench, 500 rounds of Tule in the ammo cabinet I can't wait until the weekend. Too bad I only gots one 5-round mag. We wll be fixing that little oversight very quickly. By the way, Doing business with Paul at A&A was a pleasure. Best price anywhere and well worth the scenic drive. |
