I live in south jersey and do quite a bit of shooting in PA. I know collapsible stocks arent legal in NJ but would it be illegal if i used one when i shoot in PA?

As long as you leave it PA when you come back to NJ, no problem at all.

No problem in PA - but you'll have to leave the gun there. Stock must be permanently pinned to be legal in NJ. Something that can be switched back & forth would not be legal. So unless you intend to house your gun in PA and only visit it, this would be a no go.

Adios,

The stock itself is permanentely fixed to the buffer tube. Even that tho is removable if you take the castle nut off. So as long as when the gun is in Jersey and it has the fixed stock on there what would the issue be if the collapsible one was in jersey as well just not mounted on the gun? The d*mn rules and regs in this state are a joke

The only problem with that is that the castle nut should be staked and not easily removable.

I personally don't see the point. Keep it fixed or buy a whole spare rifle and keep it in PA.

Well i would love to have a spare in PA but i would have nowhere to keep it. On my bushmaster the castle nut isnt stalked.

It doesn't have to be staked, it just can't collapse or fold.

It has to be permanently pinned.

I was speaking of properly attaching a receiver extension, AKA not with locktite.

While indeed, staking a castle nut is the preferred method, it tends to only be so in military circles. I have not yet seen a commercial AR with a staked castle nut, even on Colts. The problem I see is that the staking means that an individual is gonna have a hard time swapping it out with a wrench, whereas with the .mil, it's not something that happens all that often. Matter of fact, my unit has had 3 M4's this year alone get the stocks snapped off right at the nut. Not a pretty picture or an easy fix. All of the weapons had to be sent to Bragg for repair, despite the fact that we have several competent armorer's in the unit.

You say they snapped off, but what caused the snapping? Attempted removal of the castle nuts? Or dropping them on the ground, repeatedly?
Its two displaced nuggets of malleable steel. Small ones at that. Staking STILL allows for removal. Easy removal.
Its staked for a reason. Because locktite doesn't work, especially with a vibrating spring inside of the tube WITH a dead blow effect count weight inside the buffer.

BTW:

LMT Stakes
Colt should all be staked
Noveske stakes
BCM stakes
Or any of company using ACTUAL real correctly IN SPEC gun parts.

Locktite has absolutely no place on a firearm of any kind except for like scope ring screws. Any gunsmith will tell you this.
But this is the HTF, if you want to know more punch it into google or go to the technical subsections of this forum.
