Is it legal to carry a 4" fixed blade in NJ? Concealed or open?

Thanks

From my megar understanding, as long as you have a purpose to carry the knife you are a'ok, but self defense is not a reason that you can have it?

Im sure someone will clarify for me on this one though.

Hunting knives may be prohibited under two NJ laws: N.J.S. 2C:39-5d and/or N.J.S 2C:39e

N.J.S. 2C:39-5d. prohibits possession of any other weapon "...under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for such lawful uses it may have..."

N.J.S 2C:39-e specifically prohibits gravity knives, switchblade knives, daggers, dirks, stilettos, razor knives imbedded in wood and ballistic knives"... without any explainable lawful purpose..."

Clear  now?

The law is intent based and how bad the LEOs want to fuck you.

If you have a knife and for some random reason are searched you'll probably be okay.,

If you have a knife and you just threatened to beat someone's head in and are searched, well....you're fucked.

Don't do stupid things and you won't have any issues.

Yes, this.

Also, there is no blade length limit. I am unsure about the concealed/open condition.

They are all electricians, they use it to strip wire.

No such thing as a stupid question.

Linesmen like the big knifes with curved blade. Like a mini scieth(sp?), except with a straight handle.

I very often keep a 3.5inch folder clipped on my front pants pocket... never been harassed for it, but then again its tough to see

edit: self defense has nothing to do with it.  there are just so many times throughout a day that a good knife can be useful.

meaning it's illegal as a "switchblade"?
or meaning it's impossible to know until you need to know (up against a car trying backpeddle and explain why you have it)?

lol

if you're going to get busted, wouldn't it be more fun to just have something like this?

you'll probably get treated the same either way.
