| Driving back from the VF show yesterday, I wound up on an adventure that took me way out of the normal route home. I was cruizing along some back road in the middle of nowhere when I saw a tree start to fall. I stopped in time, but the little red import in the oncoming lane wasn't so lucky. The 8" diameter tree landed right across the hood. I made sure everyone was ok, then hooked up a strap and towed the tree off the car. Unfortunately, it got stuck against a tree on one side, and a power pole on the other. The car had minor damage, all considered, and was still drivable. Just as I turned to get back to my truck, I heard a crack like artillery fire and a second tree fell and landed 3 foot behind my truck. I waved to the couple in the car to get off the road and backed up into a nearby driveway. I snatched my hatchet from under the seat and started to hack away at the tree in front of me. Not 2 minutes later, just as I had the thing in almost 3 pieces, yet a third tree came down and landed across the middle of the one I had just been cutting. I got a little scared and ran to back of my truck only to find that a 4th was on the way down. I scrambled to get under the truck. I held out there for the next 10 minutes or, relatively dry, then went on to clear the second tree. I gotta say I was kinda shook up over it. Needless to say, I cancelled the dinner plans I had made and stayed at home instead. |

Nice new pool you have there. Glad your house was safe. Looks like you guys will have alot of firewood the next few years. It was insane. I was driving the back roads by Batsto and the Mullica River(?) was overflowing onto the road. Alot of downed trees across the road and one forest fire. Drove it again and the road crews and rangers did a great job. Roads were clear. Nice backstop you guys have Total. Now I understand what you mean when you say you guys were shooting out the back door. I'm envious on a piece of land like that. |

We've got a 1/4 basement which is filled with water, due to the high water table around here it's like that most of the winter and spring. I started jackhammering the floor last year in preparation of filling it in, it's on this years to do list.
It funny to hear it described as the sound of artillery because that's how I've been describing it. Scary shit, man. SoCal, most of these downed trees you see are pine so they can't be burned indoors. But they will be added to the backstop, perhaps a new one further back. I guess you were on 542 which is the road that I live on. Around 1pm we were at the Greenbank inn catching all the reports of the flooding and road/bridge closings and of course some vitamin G (Guinness). BTW I met your wife last night It's such a damn mess out there that I don't know where to begin. And the ones by the house are all grouped together making it very dangerous. I wont even attempt it without a spotter. |

Was glad to see many here were fortunate, and yes thank God. |
