Saw a Henry Golden Boy @ BLSS in Glassboro, I've been looking for a lever action in pistol caliber for some time but I'm not sure of a fair price on the Golden Boy version. He has 2, 45LC & .38Spl. $995 is the asking price for the .38Spl with Octagonally barrel.
I've been told the owner of the Gun Rack can beat his price by a hundred dollars, I've not yet checked out GB.com because I've never done a transfer before & not sure of what's involved.
So what are your opinions?

my dad has a few henry rifles... can't vouche for the prices but, the big boy he's got in .44 mag is a really nice shooter. very accurate and lots of fun with .44 special or mags through it.

i'd personally go with .45 colt in a lever carbine if i was to pick one up but, that's a lot because i love my vaquero in .45 colt. i don't think you'd regret getting it.

I've heard the 45LC is scarce & on the expensive side, in comparison the .44 cal cartridge is some what cheaper & easier to obtain.
The "Gun Rack" has 4 in 44 cal that I've seen, I'd prefer 357 or 38 just for the ease of handling.

you're correct on the .45 colt ammo. the best way to go is reloading for it.

if you're looking for the cheapest (factory) ammo option, then the .357 / .38 would be the way to go.

the marlin 1894 might also be an option to consider.

I reload my .45LC brass with lead 250 grain bullets. Cost is $6.00 for a box of 50.

Not sure if you have ever shot a Henry with octagonal barrel but they are very nose HEAVY! I do love the looks of the octagonal barrel over the round one but it's just not that much fun to shoot after a while because of the weight.

Funny, my wife wanted a Golden Boy, so she ordered and bought the .22lr model from BLSS just last week.  (I threw in a large loop carbine also in .22lr for myself )

My wife is trying to get her hands on the Marlin 1894 CSS model (stainless in .38/.357).  Anyone seen any?  BLSS says he's can't find any.  I'll likely check with Gun Rack tomorrow, since he's a stone's throw from my house.

Just recently got a marlin 336 in 30-30 from Cabelas for $450 before the 100 dollars off a 500 dollar purchase.
They did not have a hangun caliber mariln 1894 model, but they could get one for $499 from the main
warehouse.

After doing lots of research, most people seam to prefer the marlin over the henry models. So far the
marlin has worked well and for a under $400 dollar new lever gun, you can't beat it.

Why do you think the Marlin is better? IYO

I decided on the marlin based on price, weight, ruggedness, warranty and avalibiity of stock
and aftermarket parts. In my opinion the Henry is alittle over priced, I know the fit and finish is nice,
but I was looking for a rugged blued/stainless rifle. I ended up getting just the base 336C with a blued
finish.

I also looked at alot of Marlin Vs Henry topics on the internet and went by friends feedback on their
marlin lever actions. Both are made in the USA.
