Evening All,
I'm considering a .22RF upper. Some years ago I owned a V22 which was ok, I don't really fancy any of the plastic ones like the S&W M&P or the H&K, ideally I'd like a dedicated upper I'd value opinions of what is available on the market at the moment. BTW, Before anyone asks why an upper, I've a full cabinet and my FEO suggested conversion units as a good option. Smudge |

I have a Spike's but wish I had a CMMG, doesn't seem a good idea to buy something that isn't officially in production anymore with no spares for sale either. The statement about spares support is incorrect. I suspect that lack of knowledge, Internetitus & maybe, some BS from the cock who was importing the ST22's is to blame. Look at your Spikes & what it is. Do some research & things will start to add up. All these AR 22 RF's are as good as the abuse they are given & as reliable as the person fettling them. Adding parts without anticipating potential reliability consequences is what its all about. There a certain GP in North London, who when not dishing out "butt hurt" to whom ever wants a piece, is also a bloody good Engineer who steered me down the path to some vague understanding.
Edit : A certain Lt Cmdr also helped me enormously thankyou. |

In my terms a GP is a Gun Perv (like wot I am), but in your terms I think you are talking about a Gun Plumber....... Perhaps. I've got a Spikes. Spares are available. It runs well. I havent seen a Lantac yet so cannot comment on them.

Edit : A certain Lt Cmdr also helped me enormously thankyou. I know I can get parts engineered to fix any issue that arrises, but could also get it repaired under warrantee. I was unaware of anyone selling 'consumable' parts off the shelf. If you know where some spares are available from, please share. |

Your warranty for a Spikes or similar if supplied from the monkeyboy from Manc is likely not worth much more
than used bog roll fronm past incidents, but maybe things have changed.... You don't have to engineer yourself out of a corner old chap but if you do need to, Mark is "quite good"
There are two main types of blow back bolt group. Aitchison & Ceiner. He can & does make parts like firing pins & extractors etc cross fit the bolt groups if required. He has parts to support if required so if you are in the South, its a no brainer. Likewise, the misnomer that Spikes & many other 2nd tier manufacturers make all their upper & lowers from their own dedicated forgings & billets etc, is again not always the case. |

If you do go for just the upper, check what hammer you have is compatible with the conversion upper. Irrc, the Nordics work best with rounded, rather than notched hammers ? Cheers. Don't want to hi-jack the post, and it may be a dumb question, but could anyone explain further why the hammer type is important with regards to the type of .22 upper used. What type is best used with the V22? Thanks |

What type is best used with the V22? Thanks Some triggers don't reset properly when the .22 bolt blows back. I'm not sure what the exact mechanism behind the problem is, as I'm not a gun plumber. I have a Geissele Automatics trigger in my .22 and it's never had any issues, but I know that Jewel triggers can be a but funny with them. |

Ask a silly question.......... |

If it's any help my V22 works happily with the JP trigger in my SGC lower... I swapped out the generic trigger that came with my SGC lower for a Rock River Arms two stage unit. Seems to be OK. The design of hammer and it's possible adverse affect on function was something I was unaware of, hence the question. I had considered that a hammer thats too light may cause problems with reliable ignition, but it didn't occur to me the actual design/shape may have an affect. |
Here, here... likewise..
